Another observation on VGK:

I always laugh at the whole "THAT'S SO VEGAS!" concept being an excuse to throw in as many cliché gambling references as possible.  In a way, it's basing your branding more off of aged Downtown then the modern Strip/suburbs.  The gaudiness of this uniform fits right in with Fremont Street, the Heart Attack Grill, smoke-stained 60-year-old casinos offering $5.99 prime rib, and tourists in tank tops, fanny packs, and sandals with socks.  The fabric just doesn't work (the 80s bridesmaids dress comparison by @infrared41 works perfectly) and the gray being the dark contrast doesn't work AT ALL.  They would have been much better off going for a dazzle fabric version of a darker shade (the darker shadow of the helmet/something closer to the previous Penguins) instead of the metallic urine that we're peeling off the back of our retinas.

Or hell, at least match your actual shade if you're doing it.  This looks way too far off to be a monitor issue:

What do you mean? It’s obviously the same gold color as what’s used on the home and road. Why would it be changed for the third jersey?

It's like 99.99999% due to lighting that it looks different.

Kind of proves my point. If the lighting makes it go from almost the color of an IPA to old gold it’s a poor color choice for a primary uniform.

They should have gone with a black alt with the star logo given a neon effect if they wanted a stereotypical Vegas look.

I don't think you can take these two different pictures that were probably taken in different lighting conditions and say they don't match.  There's a lot of times when something doesn't quite look the same were taken at different times and in different conditions.  You need to have the two jerseys together side to side in order to make a direct comparison.  In this picture, the gold is very different from the picture above.

But... you can literally say the same thing about any color. They’re all going to look different if you take two photos of the same product in different lighting.

Thought this was interesting. According to the Coyotes themselves, the Kachina coyote supposedly fills/forms the shape of an “A” for Arizona?

Has that ever been explicitly said before? That seems very retroactive (seeing that they weren’t originally the “Arizona” Coyotes), but that’s what they are saying now.

I think someone recently posted early prototypes/concept art that had them as the Arizona Coyotes, whether it was trying out different options or an actual change, I don't recall. I may be inventing this entire memory anyway. At any rate, I'm pretty sure the A is coincidental.

To differing agrees.  The Dodgers will be pretty much blue if they play a day game at the Ravine or in the Trop.

In this case though, my opinion is that lighting causes WAY too much variation to the hue that it looks awful.

So, this is a quick Paint example of taking the eyedropper tool to different lighting effects of the jersey so there's a random sample.  The upper left is the actual, Pantone-corrected gold from the team's official colors.  The bottom left is the straight color swatch from the team's Tweet.  Those colors don't match.  And depending on the jersey and the angle you get everything from old gold to athletic gold to beige.  This may not bother some of you but I'm not a fan and I don't think that approaching the dress meme with your color branding is heading in the right direction.

Seems they bounced back and forth between using Phoenix (ala the Suns) or Arizona (ala the Cardinals) through the design process; the logo they currently use on their alternates is also on this document, so I assume it was somewhere in their archives.

According to the logo's designer, the A was intentional;

Quote

Fisher and his team of designers built several subtleties into the logo - the black base on which the Coyote skates; the overarching shape of the Coyote itself and, of course, the crescent moon.

"Most people don't realize that the Coyote is standing on a puck that's flat down and that the overarching shape of the Coyote is an 'A' for Arizona, even though at the time [the team] was the Phoenix Coyotes."

Given they were bouncing between Arizona and Phoenix during the design process, it makes sense they might've hidden an A in the logo.

But some colors more than others. Purple is slippery; the Vikings look downright blue at times.

Story B: Red Wings go undefeated and score 100 goals in every game. They also beat a team comprised of Godzilla, the ghost of Abraham Lincoln, 2 Power Rangers and Betty White. Oh, and they played in the middle of Iraq on a military base. In the sand. With no ice. Santa gave them special sand-skates that allowed them to play in shorts and t-shirts in 115 degree weather. Jesus, Zeus and Buddha watched from the sidelines and ate cotton candy.

They looked great in person. Decent crest (and no silly unbalanced oval) and cool shoulder patches (though the updated shoulder patch in ‘07 was better).

I think their new logo - while it could be argued is a little generic looking, and could be a logo for almost anything to do with sportswear or sports drinks etc - is quite well executed and is a lot less old school and clunky than their original. To me the Lightning's original logo falls into the same category as the Sharks' and the Canucks' original; they're charming in all their ugliness. Neither of those logos are well done by modern standards... they are definitely a product of their time, but they're not good logos and really shouldn't come back into the era of the 2020's. Do a really good updated version of them fine, but I would just simply respect them and leave them in the past.

The problem isn't the logo it's the Maple Leafs colour scheme.  If the new logo had the black highlights and silver inlay from the original, it'd be fantastic.

'Lightning' is a great name and it shouldn't be represented by uniforms as bland and unoriginal as what they use today.

Good thing we have one that's the best of both worlds! 😛

There's gotta be a way to incorporate silver into the negative space of current oval. Seems like it would tie-in nicely to earlier Lightning logos.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

I always thought that this Senators concept could have easily worked for Tampa.  Maybe Ottawa should have used it.

Well considering this concept is just recoloured Tampa jerseys, I can see why you think it would be a fit for them.
