Personally, I'd want to essentially return to the old uniforms with the classic striping and do something similar to this:

The Browns are one team that could actually pull off using an off-white / cream color as opposed to a pure white. It gives those throwback vibes and could pair nicely with their warm palette if executed properly.

This may be a bit too creamy but just to give an idea --

If you can recall, Baker rocked the cream in college with those alternates. I think it mostly worked for OU given their crimson & cream color scheme. They could've improved their look had they removed the huge collar, the truncated pant stripes, and the overall modern edginess (sharp number font and word mark, and the infamous Jaws of Husky stadium) that was present on the initial version. The wood grain was subtle enough not to bother me, but it can go too.

Point is the cream could look sharp on a more classic uniform like the Browns are capable of wearing. I'm sure there are more examples out there but this is just one that came to mind.

Honest question, is cream a color or a fauxback?

The school’s official colors are crimson and cream, but I think this alternate is one of, if not the only place it’s used.

As a helmet logo? It’s not necessary.

As the team’s primary logo? It’s more secondary territory, IMO.

That goes without saying. The Browns will never have a logo on their helmets. It’s implied that any proposed logo for the Browns is intended only for media and merchandise unless otherwise noted (in which case I would not trust said designer). 🙂

What made the Oilers set work so well is that they never applied those stripes to a red background (i.e., helmet, jersey, pants), so that element of the pattern never disappears.

When Florida tried to keep the stripes in the same order, the orange outer stripes disappear on anything orange.  Also, on a white background, the white middle section doesn't "read" as a stripe to me for some reason (if that makes any sense), but I've never had that problem with the Oilers' blue pants.

thank you! i've been trying to find a way to express this for a while but this is it.  the middle doesn't read as a stripe when its the same color as the jersey. I have this problem with tOSU as well. At first I never understood why people would call UF's striping "consistent", because i thought consistent meant, for example, if the helmet stripe is b/w/b tri-stripe, then the shoulder stripe should be the same tri-stripe but b/o/b, etc.

It just works a lot better when the middle stripe isn’t white, but I agree with your last statement. I think Florida’s blue jersey looks best as it is, but I think the white jersey would look best with a simple inverse of the helmet stripe.

I’ve not had this thought before the post, but I’m starting to think I’d love the Browns to just use that script wordmark as the primary logo, a la UCLA or Zenit in soccer. I love that wordmark— it’s beautiful, classic, and perfectly fitting for the franchise, IMO.

I am intrigued by the cream concept. Threw this together quickly using the Milwaukee Bucks cream CMYK. Not a bad look...spacer.png

Personally I think this is fantastic and would be a really cool move by the Browns.  I wonder if it was ever considered.  Hat tip to whoever brought it up here.

Before the current disaster was revealed I had an idea for the Browns to keep things as simple as possible. Something similar to those vintage varsity style looks that are popular in fashion. Simple logo that isn’t used on any part of the uniform other than as a primary logo, similar to this type of aesthetic.

I figure if the Browns are gonna keep their style really simple, embrace it to the max. Treat the brand like it honors the looks a lot of colleges had back in the early to mid 1900s. Basically, give them an old school varsity style look. It’s not too far removed from their historical branding, but just consolidated a bit better.

Hopefully I’m making sense.

Beautiful, but I have a hard time believing the league office would allow the cream to completely replace the white. They’d start reeeeeeeeeeeee-ing so loud the noise would be heard in outer space.

God bless cream.  That com elf (my phone autocorrects “concept” to “corn elf” so I’m leaving it) is glorious. I’m gonna quote it again. Look at that creamy goodness.  Lap it up.

I’m not so sure about this whole “Cream” concept...

I am.  While I think gray would be a better color to go with the brown and orange, I think the cream looks pretty darn good.

I'm expecting to see the Jaguars uniforms just with the number colors changed with the fill tool, but hopefully I'll be surprpised.
