Cleveland Browns Unveil New Uniforms

The only concern I'd have with cream for Cleveland is that it might clash with any necessary instances of white, like helmet bumpers, chin straps, or sock bottoms. But maybe they're not necessary after all. It'd probably have to be subtler than what the SF Giants wear, too.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

What is it with everyone and these 70s kitchen uniforms. Between the Bucs and Browns, please give it a rest.

What does that even mean?  Aprons?

It's obvious that the guy wasn't even alive in the 70's. Anyone who was there knows that almost all kitchens were either green or yellow. No one was rocking pewter and red or orange and brown. OK, maybe the occasional orange and brown, but the point remains.

I think cream would be a fantastic addition to the Browns’ color scheme. You can get a sense of how it could look by looking at Oregon State’s new set that they debuted this past year:

Now obviously that’s black instead of brown, but I think it gives a good sense of how it could work if the Browns were to go that route.

He's referring to colors that were common in 1970s kitchens: orange; cream; avocado; robin egg blue, etc.

Nice try.

Thank you. I do my best.

thank you! i've been trying to find a way to express this for a while but this is it.  the middle doesn't read as a stripe when its the same color as the jersey. I have this problem with tOSU as well. At first I never understood why people would call UF's striping "consistent", because i thought consistent meant, for example, if the helmet stripe is b/w/b tri-stripe, then the shoulder stripe should be the same tri-stripe but b/o/b, etc.

I've made similar arguments here in the past - that there are multiple ways to achieve "consistency" with stripes.. some folks just see it as one way, and one way only..

this is fact. We had pea-green counters, and yellow backsplash and fridge.

living room couches were brown with thin orange and black pinstripes.

But in the nfl the bumpers, chin straps, and socks would clash with the cream. This is not a good comparison

Trust me, you wouldn't love it if you had lived through it. We knew the 70's were cheesy as hell when we were living in the 70's. B)

Yeah, it’s more a case of nostalgia for something I never lived through. I know all about the wretchedness of the ‘70s, but also how amazing some of it was. Nostalgia is always complicated.

Nostalgia is not particularly complicated with the Browns, IMHO. We know what they should look like and anything close to that is fine by me.

The wretchedness is what made some of it amazing...wait, you were referring to the 70's aesthetic, weren't you.  Seriously though, I totally get what you're saying. The 70's were goofy as hell, but in all the right ways...well, mostly. To borrow from the great Hunter S. Thompson; The 70's were a time filled with sex, drugs, loose morals, crime, and decaying cities. There was also a downside.  😉

Now I’m just picturing Greg with huge sideburns and wearing polyester bell bottoms and I want to quit the boards.

The half-color, half-white socks are no longer mandated, so they’d probably just go with solid brown, orange, or off-white socks (or striped in a perfect world). Yes the bumpers and chin straps would be white (unless the NFL would make an exception for off-white), but I don’t really see that as an issue. The socks would be a bigger issue, but again there are ways around that now that the half-white socks aren’t required.

That's exactly what the Browns should have done for their last uni update (the one they have now). But, since the tried and failed at a modern look, I don't think they'll want to go any direction except for very traditional.
