Jacksonville Jaguars throwback concept logos?

Recommended Posts

Lately I’ve been getting into making custom football helmets, and I picked a set of these up in eBay under the title “Jacksonville Jaguars throwback concept helmet decals”.

Was this designed by anyone here? I’ve never seen them before.

Yeah, it is kind of awful. But that’s why I like it. It’s got a certain 80s high school charm to it.

Maybe my awful is different. If that were today -- yeah it's awful. It strikes me as a fauxback, so like the Preds Winter Classic,  it isn't awful.

The only thing I’m changing is I’m going to use a grey mask with it instead of a yellow one. The yellow is nice, but it has a bit too much of a CFL USA vibe being that bright rather than a fauxback NFL look.

I think I paid about $10 for this particular logo set (the two decals and the five helmet stripes), which is why I bought it.

I get the shells through my work (we share some equipment space with a junior college football team and they toss out old shells pretty regularly), so those are free. I pick up the decals online ($5-$30 depending on the decal set), and the masks are $5-$10 online.

These are some of the ones I’ve made so far. I sand them down, repaint them (Krylon or Rustoleum spray paint), decal them and reassemble them. The total cost is $30-$60 depending on how much the paint and decals are. Not bad considering even replicas are usually $100-$150.

I'd be curious to know if it feels like old stock when it arrives. To me, it feels like a generic logo that could be ordered from a catalog in the 80s or 90s. Maybe a school actually paid for the logos at some point. Since the only teal comes from the clear eye, nose, and tongue, it makes me lean towards it being a "coincidence" that it's on a teal helmet that makes it seem like a Jaguars concept. Although admittedly, it could make sense for a team to print the decals like this to make them 3-color instead of 4-color.

Just finished putting the helmet together, and I’m pleased. I used a darker shade of teal, which I like better. I do think a yellow mask may work a bit better with the teal, though.

That is beautiful! By the way, I love your name on Twitter!

Those logos and that helmet were made by Steve B.

The guy does great work.  A few years back he contacted me to ask permission to use a logo I created for a fauxback Ravens' helmet.  Turned out great;
