2020 College Football

I've never really understood the championship process for college football. For most other American sports, there's a playoff model and if a 5 seed or whatever wins, so be it. But with college football, there's a real aversion to even giving a 5 seed a chance. Each team plays dramatically different schedules, so there's no real way to compare teams until they play each other in an elimination tournament. A lot of entrenched college fandom seems to not want to even grant that shot, but instead entrench some combination of OSU, LSU, Alabama and random SEC/Pac-12/ACC team of the moment to compete for the title.

Let Dr. Teeth explain....

Sports are weird because on the one hand the ideal is pure competition and living with the results on the field. On the other hand, there's so much maneuvering to avoid any actual real competition in favor of reinforcing the status quo.

Reference above--added to the real fear of getting embarrassed in front of everyone. (There's a reason so many big-name teams were scared 💩less to play Boise State several years ago, especially so soon after Appalachian State pulled off arguably the greatest or at least most unexpected CFB upset in recent memory.)

Y'all, Charlie Brown kicked the damn football in Bloomington today.

I wasn't even 2 last time Indiana beat a top 10 team.

You manage to balance agitation with just enough salient points to keep things interesting. Kind of a low-rent DG_Now.

And this game is proof that it's better to gain enough than too much. If Penn State doesn't score that touchdown at the end of regulation, they win.

The first time I've seen a team celebrate an opposing touchdown.

James Franklin isn't and will never be a big time coach. Games like this prove it.

The Rose Bowl vs USC proved it. Somehow couldn't put away that game and let Sam Darnold pick them apart in the 4th before he started seeing ghosts.

He is a great rah-rah guy and a pretty good recruiter. It all doesn't matter unless you want to go 9-3 every year.

Meanwhile, we got a school that won't play football in the spring (or any sports for that matter) as Bethune-Cookman decided to NOT play in 2020-2021.

For the MEAC, it's an easy solution as they can swap a team in the North Division to the South for football and basketball.

For the SWAC, they get a school with a literal fresh slate in 2021.

In other college football news...

-New Mexico already lost a game thanks to COVID-19 running rampant through the state. The home opener against San Jose State is now in San Jose, thanks to COVID-19.

-UNLV will actually have fans in Allegiant Stadium for their first game there, a rivalry clash with Nevada. 2000 fans will be allowed to enter the 'Death Star' for this game. Still no fans for the Raiders, though.

-For Week 11 of the season (November 14th), College Gameday will be at a very different locale... Augusta National. The Masters is being held that weekend, so why not try that?

Also, Rice, Baylor and Houston actually played games!

Barring that the Nebraska game remains cancelled, what happens if Wisconsin and Minnesota finish with the same amount of wins, but Minnesota has one more loss? Who gets into the Conference Championship?

It's down to win % at that point, no?

Edit: wait, they play eachother. I imagine it will be decided by head-to-head.
