We had no chrome in the NFL for approximately 20 hours

It's not a true chrome like the bucs had. It's actually a silver or gray that's been glossed. It's very evident in close up pics. The chrome on the facemask  doesn't exactly shine the way the bird does.d1241290-799d-11ea-9777-b6c7b9686ae7

So they have fake chrome and real chrome on the helmets. 😜

Here’s a look at the helmet and jersey in normal lighting conditions outside of a studio, which I think is always good to accurately judge a new uniform.

And it still sucks...

Yeah I don’t get everyone’s obsession with calling it chrome. Apparently if it’s not true grey then it must be that god forsaken chrome!!

I mean even the team keeps calling it chrome.

I'm with you. I can accept people not liking the uniforms. But all of these mislabeled traits is the annoying thing. The facemask isn't chrome, the logo isn't much bigger than the old one, and the side stripe people want to complain about is minimal and far from obtrusive. As long as they do black/white at home, more often than the all black, I say these have passed the bar.

The Bucs didn't have a true shiny chrome either, IIRC. More of a silver. It wasn't quite like USC's chrome facemask/helmet.

Falcons facemasks are essentially the same as the old Bucs.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

Which brings me to my original point...it's not the college football chrome everyone wants to hate.

We now have a name for the Falcons' style of side stripes: "stoops"...

Credit where credit is due. "Stoop" is a term used to describe the swift, diving flight of an avian predator attacking its prey. So, while Nike's designers produced a stylistically overwrought abomination of a uniform for the Falcons, the company's marketing professionals did manage to step up their game when it came to producing creative copy to describe the striping that plunges down the side of said unis.

Doublespeak: A+

I’ll be honest, it really did look like chrome from some angles and lighting to me. It was an easy mistake for me to make, and I’m sure it was for others. I don’t think anyone was trying to “mislabel” anything; personally I simply just said what I thought I saw.

I can see now that it isn’t true chrome, but I still don’t like the true finish as-is either. Chrome or not, it still looks very out of place compared to the rest of the uniform and looks like it’s only there to be trendy. That might be some people’s cup of tea, and that’s fine, but it’s really not mine.

Looking at the Buccaneers old helmet and  Falcons new helmet, the facemasks are pretty much identical if not a subtle difference. The Bucs weren’t as dull as the Falcons are. Chrome is highly reflective, and I doubt you can look into either of those facemasks and see your reflection. They’re silver not chrome.

The facemask change is the one thing that’s bugging me out the most about this whole look. Just, why? It’s such an absolutely unnecessary change.

It doesn’t match anything in their set other than the silver that’s in the logo, and that was basically never an issue people had with the last set. It’s essentially the same mask the Bucs had but just ditched. It’s ugly as all hell and I’m annoyed it found a way back into the league less than a day after it was eliminated.

Where do I start?

  • Matte helmet is not as good as glossy one
  • Big Falcon
  • Gray Mask for a team that doesn't use gray
  • Stupid ATL on the front
  • Gigantic numbers
  • Black home jersey in a league that needs less black (now the NFC South has 3 primarily black teams)
  • Cheesy as hell gradient that looks weird (called the Rise Up jersey Lmao)
  • Side stripe on the jersey
  • Another Nike remodel with only one other color on the pants
  • Monochrome home and away

I'm not happy.

1. Debatable. For these? Yeah probably should’ve chosen a different finish, but I’m not upset

2. Not even that big of an issue

3. Silver* and even if it was grey, that isn’t stopping other teams from doing the same thing

4. They probably could have and should have gone with “ATLANTA”

5. Yeah they’re a little big, but not too bothersome.

6. Agreed. Probably should’ve went with a solid red home jersey

7. The gradient is wonky and looks like an old dude pulled his britches up real f***ing high for no reason, but it’s passable as a (hopefully) one per season deal

8. I honestly don’t see them going full mono home and away all the time. They have options and will use them.

Im satisfied. They aren’t great, but by no means are the bad. They’re mid pack of Nike Redesigns and probably bottom half in the whole league
