I could also be reaching on this, but is it fair to say Notre Dame is a much bigger national brand than both Cal and UCLA? Much bigger, there is a reason they were the biggest independent for as long as they were.

Their fanbase is massive. How much of that merch is UA stuff I'm not sure. All the shirts I've bought during the UA run have been made by Champion.

The apparel licensing deals are typically exclusive for the athletic department and related marks only. Any other merch and logos/marks are fair game to be licensed which is why you can buy champion und gear or an under armour usc shirt from the campus bookstore or sports retailer. Schools have also got into the private label game to capture more revenue for themselves. The funny thing about notre dame is from what I remember a big part of their compensation with ua was stock compensation. I have no idea what came of that and if they were able to sell it off before ua tanked but what a cautionary tale about partnering with an upstart that was leveraging their own equity in an attempt to buy market share (as others have stated). Without good product and organic growth these scenarios rarely turn out positive. I think we will see a chapter 11 filing before the end of the year or right after the dismal holiday season.

Yeah I'm from Texas but i've always had a soft spot for ND bc they were always on NBC growing up. Also watching Rudy in Spanish class and a lot of other times growing up. One of Vince Vaughn's best films.
Scrumptious Ham 616 Posted July 7, 2020 My best friend's dad got his degree from Rutgers. He has deep Catholic roots. He'll watch and cheer for Notre Dame over Rutgers in any sport. A lot of Catholics love their Notre Dame.

As an Irish-American Notre Dame fan and a disaffected Washington fan, they are not the same. Not even remotely.
PERRIN 992 Posted July 8, 2020 While not quite as egregious as Native-American imagery, the fighting irish logo is certainly stereotypical, and potentially harmful. Stereotypical depiction of any race or people is racist. I feel like you could still use the name but lean more toward other imagery to avoid stereotypical depictions of a culture. Honoring the culture of a nation or tribe is all cool to me as long as there are no offensive imagery or names involved. As a user over on Brand New put it; 'No one wants to see their race, gender, or creed evoked to sell product.'

But it’s a leprechaun. No different than Lucky Charms. No one is being harmed, in this instance.

It doesn't mean anything to me because I don't live out west and I don't like college sports, let's just not pretend this is improving anyone's material conditions. It's cheap talk and you get what you pay for. This last part is true. As for the Civil War thing in Oregon, it only makes sense in the idea that Oregon is basically the Alabama of the west. You get north of Sacramento and it’s a big chunk of basically nothing until Eugene/Springfield. “The State of Jefferson” is as close to backwater as we have.

cajunaggie08 671 Posted July 8, 2020 Still no new uniform information. However due to corporate banks merging Wake Forest's stadium has a new name. BB&T Field has been renamed Truist Field at Wake Forest
