Harlequin 5 Posted August 12, 2020 Devin McCourty has an old “3” and new “2” in the pics. Equipment guys clearly can’t tell the different.
ScubaSteve 992 Posted August 12, 2020 So let me guess, the Patriots are going to be the next team to jump on the monochrome bandwagon? blech
Digby 6,522 Posted August 12, 2020 This is the sort of scrappy, disjointed wackiness of classic decades-ago NFL. Very early-90s Patriots.
guest23 1,493 Posted August 12, 2020 Does anyone know if they use an outside tailoring shop for numbering and customization of the equipment staff does it in house? This is not surprising at all considering in the eyes of the casual observer who is not keen on small details, all they did this season was promote the color rush uniform to primary. If it's the equipment staff that's responsible they should be much more in tune with what changed between seasons. Also if I'm the equipment staff and I use an outside service I give them a heads up to trash all of the old block numerals before the new product arrives to protect them from themselves.

It's pretty large and embroidered so it doesn't wrap around his shoulders like the jersey does.
Delicate Genius 550 Posted August 12, 2020 Deatrich Wise Jr. had the new numbers on his jersey but it looks like they were sloppily taped on. The only picture you can see the name bar lettering is this one of Joe Thuney. He has the old font (and his numbers were old too): The Pats did player headshots for their website's roster page yesterday which might explain why the jerseys are a mishmash of old and new. I saw fans on Twitter saying the jerseys ordered online come with the new letters and numbers. The practice jerseys are still using the old font but that doesn't mean anything.
El Scorcho 429 Posted August 12, 2020 5 hours ago, Survival79 said: God this is ridiculous. Have we ever seen anything like 2 different fonts in one number before? Teams should be required to hire at least 1 uniform nerd to approve all uniforms prior to a photoshoot like this.
Digby 6,522 Posted August 12, 2020 Patriots can't get any decent equipment guys since the legacy of Tom Brady throwing them under the bus. It's nothing but high school dropouts from Sharon and Walpole.
Harlequin 5 Posted September 14, 2020 Joejuan Williams #33 was wearing a jersey with the old font yesterday. JJ Taylor has old font for his nameplate only. Sloppy.
canzman 518 Posted September 14, 2020 Bill Belichick hates dealing with anything that isn't X's and O's about the team and the prep for the next game. I honestly think during the change he pushed for one pant, one dark & white jersey and one sock so he has to just say we will wear blue at home and the opposite of whatever the home team pick and be done with it. I honestly can see him rolling his eyes each week before this change when the equipment guys would say "what pants this week coach" and then follow up his answer with "what sock?"

Why wouldn't he delegate that decision to Berj Najarian? I mean, if the one set of pants was assigned to the blue jersey, and another to the white jersey, he could still say "We're wearing blue at home" and the equpment guys would know that means silver pants.

Even if they did that it still then would always be the same white look and always the same color look and a fan base/press always saying or asking why don't they wear X with Y or what have you. He never has to field those questions now, ever. It is the same pant or sock regardless of either jersey, there are no "they could" or "why don't they" b/c other options don't exist. Just seems like a very Belichick thing to me. No frills this is it let's play football and focus on the game.

I don't think the "frills" of the 2000-2019 uniforms (in which 95% of the time they had one home and one road uni) really made a dent on Belichick's ability to game plan. Belichick doesn't read the fanbase's comments on MyFace or SnapFace or YearBook.

Magic Dynasty 2,401 Posted September 15, 2020 Why would the Patriots even get a new number font if they can't tell the difference between old and new? Seems like a pointless change.
gosioux76 2,357 Posted September 15, 2020 I say this knowing next to nothing about how NFL teams manage their laundry or branding, but could it be possible that Bob Kraft is just being thrifty or waste-averse? Since these are just Color Rush unis promoted to regular wear, is it feasible that they just still have a boatload of old numbers or last year's jerseys to burn through? If this is a ridiculous suggestion, I'll hand in my uniform critic card on my way out the door.
Krudler 71 Posted September 15, 2020 The helmets really should be white, and they should have white pants on the home uniform. These are close to being good, but they are just bleh. I like the move away from early 00s striping and side panels, and I like the new number font. The callback to the classic shoulder striping is nice too.
WSU151 9,725 Posted September 15, 2020 I'm perfectly fine with the Pats in silver helmets...white/navy/white can be hard to pull off, and is more of a collegiate look. By the time this set reaches the five year mark in 2024/25, the Pats will have been in silver helmets for 32 seasons and white helmets for 33 seasons.
