Rumor mill is starting to pickup, with the 7th and 8th being tossed around as dates.

Another concept:

What?!?! Actual uniform talk??

If this is what they rolled out, I wouldn't be disappointed.

Jacksonville is only the biggest city in Florida by area, because they annexed the entire county.

Its metro population is 1,504,980, which puts it behind Miami (6,158,824), Tampa (3,068,511), and Orlando (2,387,138).

Yeah, I still remember my family’s summer-2012 stop in Jacksonville, on the way to...Fort Myers, I think? The city is physically huge, and the downtown-ish area has its fair share of the tall buildings you see in most big cities, but it felt like there wasn’t much going on. There were few people walking along the sidewalks. We did have a good experience eating at a Jamaican restaurant. It was in the basement of a building, and they told us that it turned into a nightclub after dark. Decent food, very friendly folks. They had this guava juice that was off the hook.

...anyway, yeah, J-ville is not population-dense. Not at all.

Don't forget Tampa and Orlando are only 80 miles apart and most likely share football/basketball markets.

It’s not an easy 80 miles to Orlando, and Tampa is closer to 200

Eh, it's not super relevant. I certainly see more Magic coverage in Tampa compared to any other NBA teams. And the Magic partner with the Bucs, Lightning, and Rays on a number of community projects. It's not that out there to think there's some overlap between the two.

Second choice was Baltimore, which had two competing ownership groups. The Maryland governor was asked to step in and reconcile the two. Instead, he started a THIRD ownership group, and the other two responded as you'd expect. NFL said no thanks.

Tagliabue told Governor Willie Don Schaeffer to use the stadium money to build a museum instead.   In Baltimore, they'll say it was because Tagliabue was a Redskins fan who didn't want to hurt the franchise.

I just wish they could get a new Stadium in Hawaii for the Pro bowl (and the Rainbow Warriors) Maybe do an every other year deal where even years it's in Orlando, odd years it is in Hawaii

I don’t see how that’s possible, though. They barely have enough funding to keep Aloha Stadium functional, and it’s an absolute disaster.

Ive been to a lot of sports stadiums, and a good handful of them have been absolute dumps. But they all look like St. Peter’s Basilica in comparison to Aloha.  That place isn’t just gross, it’s downright dangerous. You walk out of there wanting it get a tetanus shot it’s so bad. And the last time I was there was 2009. I can’t even imagine how awful it must be now.

I’d be curious to see if the NFL would be willing to do a 3-to-6 game slate in Orlando with all three Florida teams? Hell, two per season for six games could make it feel like Orlando actually HAS a team. The only NFL game the city gets on a regular basis is the rickety-ass Pro Bowl once a year.

We had a Dolphins preseason game a few years back against the Falcons, which sold pretty well IIRC. I'm hoping that they move at least one of the Jaguars games that were supposed to be in London to the Citrus Bowl, but that's not grounded in any sort of reality.

Maybe the Jaguars could play 2 home games in Orlando, and 6 in St. Louis.

I totally understand. I've got no problem with Thunder fans and I'm sure pretty much all of them would welcome a brand new Sonics team. I just hope that when the Sonics do return the Thunder org gives up all pre-OKC history like the Pelicans did.

That was part of the original agreement, IIRC, so long as Seattle either got a franchise or at least a new arena by a certain time. I believe that has expired on time limit, but yeah, the Sonics history should stay up in Seattle.

But on topic to LA, I would love a yellow home jersey, but I'm worried about this gradient talk from the logo.

I would.

Given the identity they've already rolled out, I guess these uniforms would be the best thing available? But still not great.

I think you misread my comment. It's 80 miles between Tampa and Orlando, Jacksonville is significantly farther from both.

Uniform talk?  More like concept talk.  You gained nothing more from that post than you did reading about the Cleveland deal, revolutionary-war-era drumming, or whether Anaheim is a suburb.

If they posted that concept as the uniform then it wouldn't be as bad as say what the Falcons coughed up out of design.

The museum crack was made after Jacksonville was announced as the second team.  It didn't exactly ingratiate Tags to the Baltimore fans.

As for before the announcement, it was pretty clear the fix was in when the announcement of the second team was delayed in an effort to let Jacksonville get its act together.  Even though I was holding out faint hope at that point, I was almost positive Jacksonville was going to get the second team because Tagliabue was convinced that expanding to the Sun Belt was the way to go and that Baltimore added little to the league because it was too close to Washington and Philadelphia.

With the benefit of hindsight, I think it is hardly a reach to say that Baltimore has been the best market of those in the running then that wound up with teams (Baltimore, Carolina, Jacksonville, St. Louis).  It helps that the Ravens have had the most success on the field of all of those markets, but the overall results (attendance, etc.) are hard to discount.

This feels cheap to me. I think part of that has to do with the template though. (And I can't really put my finger on why it feels that way, necessarily.) Plus, I don't know if the Cubs have the exclusive rights to that set of numbers (or if it's more like Boston's use of McAuliffe numbers; they're just the only ones who use that set of numbers, but don't have exclusive rights to it).

Perhaps I missed something definitive in previous discussions about which colors are involved, but with the gradients: If the Rams were to use a gradient in the gold elements of the uniform that went from "Sol" to "Light Orange" (or even to "Sunset"), that would look far better than a gradient from "Sol" to white. While the former, applied to the numbers, the horns on the helmet, and/or the striping would be a way to tie in an update from the logo without looking too different, the latter makes the elements on the mockups I've seen look washed out. It's like the uniforms were washed in bleach that only affects yellow dye or something. There are obviously any number of changes the Rams can (and likely will) make to deviate from the classic royal and gold uniforms. But using a gradient from gold to white would be a mistake. It looks decidedly washed out.

Because of the local broadcast partners (Fox Sport Florida and Fox Sports Sun), FS Florida usually sticks with the Miami teams (Panthers, Heat, Marlins) and FS Sun takes the rest (Magic, Lightning, Rays).

There are also different feeds in the Miami and Central Florida areas.  For me in the Tampa Bay area, Rays and Lightning are on FS Sun, and Magic go to FS Florida.

I have to say I prefer thread digressions (and meta posts) to posting concepts in the news thread.

As for the Rams unis, I bet they wait for the schedule release Thursday and then wither that day or the next release a uniform schedule with the new unis.
