If you want a more exciting person to base a LaRue County school on though, why not Abraham Lincoln? He was born there after all.

There might be some other schools in some other place that take on an Abe Lincoln persona in some other state, but we'll have to wait to see.  Also I really wanted to have a school be able to honor Native Americans, thus LeRoux was named for Danny Little Bear. In the end of the series (whenever that may be) I'll definitely come back and create some rivalry series amongst some teams from different conferences that will most likely include one surrounding Abraham Lincoln with teams from Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky.

Good stuff, but why does the lightning bug look like he doesn’t want to be seen?

Is that Commodore logo based on Perry the Platypus? My daughter loved that show.

Yes, the idea is that Danville, Kentucky is near a town called Perryville, named for Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry (the namesake for the college) who is dubbed the Hero of Lake Erie. So like the Mighty Ducks, Commodore College partnered with Disney for their nickname and mascot.

Named for Warren Elmer Blackhurst, a local author who lived in the area his whole life and wrote stories surrounding the life of people in Southeastern West Virginia. The athletic teams are named for one of his more well known books, Riders of the Flood.

Are you planning to create schools in the Midwest at all? I’m definitely excited to see schools from Minnesota especially! I was a little let down by a different Moorhead haha

"And those who know Your Name put their trust in You, for You, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You." Psalms 9:10

Short answer: Yes. After the current Appalachian region conference (one more team in West Virginia left), I currently have 11 out of 12 logo sets drawn for a conference based in the Mid-Atlantic region, followed by a couple of logo sets for a conference based in the New England region. The plan from there on is to move to the Great Lakes region westward, probably ending in either the PNW or California. I hope to have at least two teams in each state, but not every state has two viable locations without a current university and intriguing local tie-ins. If you happen to have a local city or town that has some intriguing history, I’d love to consider it for the series. Here is the map I’ve been using for all of the teams and conferences.

Took a break during my football season, which unfortunately ended sooner than I hoped, but at least I was able to start working on more concepts. Without further adieu, the last team in the Old 8 Conference hails from the Parkersburg, WV area and is named for the state fossil, Jefferson's Ground Sloth.

Enjoying the series so far. Although, as an avid college watcher, I find it odd that so many stadiums and arenas have corporate sponsors, when in realty, most of them that do get a name are usually named after somebody, whether it's a university figure, or someone who donated to the project.

The arena is called The Sandbox because during construction, the crew dug too deep, leading to them having to fill it back up with a combination of backfill and sand, leading to students and fans mocking the costly blunder.

Wonder HOW that ridicule goes down.

Colors

 - Hoodoo Orange

 - Red Rock

 - White

Logos

 - Seal is image of Thor's Hammer during a Sunrise/Sunset, with a ribbon displaying the school motto "Research and Discovery", BC for Bryce Canyon, and UT for Utah. The roundel displays the school name with the founding year, 1925, in roman numerals

 - Primary is the athletics name "GEO" spelled out, with Thor's Hammer as the cut out of the G

 - Secondary is Thor's Hammer with the Red Rock gradient

 - Tertiary is a modern take on the school seal, used selectively.

s3D3zfg.png

Field

 - Natural grass

 - Built in 2013 after flaying at nearby Panguitch High School for the first two seasons

Uniforms

 - After a few double-digit win seasons wearing generic orange and white uniforms with blank orange lids, Nike decide to take a leap and sponsor the Hoodoos. They came up with a "modern take on a classic style of uniform", which means they attempted to use block gradients without making it look like the Arizona atrocities from two years previous. This came in the form of using the gradients as rare accents, while letting the school colors of Hoodoo orange and white be the star. With this new look, Nike also design a more "out-there" alternate uniform to worn once a season where all sales are donated to the National Parks service.

IBqVYNH.png

Court

 - Built in 1925 as the school cafeteria, it was renovated in the quaint, but loud venue now home to Hoodoo athletics and the famed student section   named Canyon Crazies. The court was redesign in 2017 after SkyWest Airlines purchased the naming rights to the arena for $6.3 million a year over   10  years.

Uniforms

 - Yet another Arizona fixer-upper, the basketball team didn't receive new uniforms until 2018, as basketball was lackluster compared to other sports. However, after a surprising run in the 2017-2018 season, where they went into the 32 team tournament as the #32 seed and made it all the way to the championship game, Nike gave them some new duds. As a way of showing how the program had climbed their way to the top, these uniforms emphasize the "staircase effect" seen in the primary "GEO" logo. They also incorporated the gradient as a shoulder harness, like the Arizona ones, but then used it in the site piping in a more subtle way. They also kept the white side panels as a way of tying the new uniforms to the old ones when they reached the championship game.

vbHE2yZ.png

Ice

 - Middle ice logo ties together the primary and tertiary logos, the two logos the hockey team dons on their chest.

Uniforms

 - Although the football and basketball teams were forced to wear generic uniforms in their rise to prominence, the Hockey team had a long history with Nike from their club sport days. This led to them being Nikes guinea pigs for hockey designs, which resulted in a fair share of both hits and misses. After hockey became a sanctioned sport, Nike let them choose their ensemble of looks from Nike's numerous tinkering's. This led to the adoption of the "Sunrise Helmets", as fans begun calling them, gradient sleeves, and the "Utah Sens" alternate.

659oYl3.png

Field

 - Completed in 2012, Hoodoos Park originally was planned to house 5,000 fans, but later added a single seat in the home dugout after a senior first baseman tragically died in a snowstorm one month before opening day, which also led to them naming the field J.C Rhemmers Memorial Field

Uniforms

 - When Nike took over, they decided to let the players decide on the alternates. They decided to honor J.C. by donning uniforms inspired by his favorite uniform, the 1995 Detroit tigers alternate, and his favorite type of uniform, sleeveless. Nike took this into consideration when designing both alternates, making both appear sleeveless, while only the Home alt is in a similar style to the aforementioned Tigers jersey. The home and away and the helmets were both carryovers from their club days, however the caps were designed through a fan vote, who voted for the gradient crowns.

Rhemmers Field is a great story. I like things like that that make college sports unique.

Colors

 - Blue Gramma

Logos

 - Primary: Stylized Greater Roadrunner

 - Secondary: Slanted EC NM with side shadow

 - Tertiary: New Mexico Outline with stacked EC NM inside

d98L6Ei.png

Field

 - Artificial Turf

 - Built in 1989 when they became a state school, Vi Ann's name was added in 1992 after her death.

Uniforms

 - When Nike took over before the 2012 season, they decided to go all in with a Zia sun striping pattern and a Yucca color to replace white. Majority of fans hated the look from the get-go. When the previous coach was fired after the 2017 season, new and current head coach Richard Long sought to return to a more traditional look. Back came white and back came the 1/4-1/2-1/4 striping, well, kind of. Nike decided to have a string look to the stripes as a nod to their founder, Norman Petty, and his famed guitar sound. They settled on 8 "strings" because that's how many stripes ore found in the Zia sun. When they made the switch to Jordan a year later, they introduced a turquoise alternate for a once-a-season game that celebrates the history and culture of Native Americans where the proceeds of corresponding merchandise goes to Nike's N7 Fund. The turquoise uniform elements were also worn for big games throughout 2019, i.e. the game against in-state rival Malpais State and when they battled the Hoodoos for the 2nd place spot in the conference title game.

WxphvYb.png

Court

 - Replacing the old Hatch Athletics Hall in 2015, USEagle Center is home to the Rowdy Roadies student section who keep the atmosphere in "the Aviary" loud and crazy for all sporting events, and the occasional concert. The court got an update in 2019 when they rebranded. They went for a traditional look, minus the fading gradient area inside the arc and the southwestern inspired wood grain.

Uniforms

 - Much like the football team, they have a more traditional look. They had to wait a year longer than football for when the school completely phased out yucca when they switched to Jordan. They decided to go for a 3/4 framed striping pattern in order to set themselves apart from other teams in the conference with side paneling. The turquoise set is also apart of the Nike N7 initiative, and has the side stripe on the left to symbolize Clovis being the archeological heart of the Clovis Culture and the first inhabitants of the Americas.

32tYgYq.png

Uniforms

 - Not becoming a varsity sport until after attempting to join the FCS in 1999, the original uniforms very much resembled the times. They continued to have "unique" uniforms through their Nike days with Zia yokes paired with traditional hem striping, and matching turquoise helmets and pants. Luckily, when Jordan rebranded them, they dropped the style mixture and settled for a somewhat traditional look. Like the other sports, they use the stringed stripe on the hem and pants, although they maintained the yoke from the previous set, now a solid color going the length of the arms.

C0XfwM2.png

Field

 - Being the newest baseball park in the conference, having been built just prior to the 2020 season, A.R. Smith Stadium was named after Pixar co-founder Alvy Ray Smith, who grew up in western Texas and New Mexico and provided 45% of the $50 million raised for the stadium.

Uniforms

 - After wearing yucca and half Zia underlines for nearly a decade, ECNM baseball christened it's new ballpark with more classic pinstripes. The slightly arched wordmarks and the "half string" piping adds to the look. In addition, they debuted a faux-back that features a thick turquoise collar and stripe down the front. They did a good job of rotating the two home hats between the two looks along with wearing the all blue caps with each uniform.

Why Roadies instead of Roadrunners?

 - This past years glory series uniform takes cues from the 2017 Army uniforms and the Pando Commando alpine skiers uniforms and the "follow me" stripe

Court

 - The court is the same parquet design as the original 1947 court, same green stain

 - Wounded Warrior Project gained naming rights by helping fund and operate the on campus public hospital that also serves as the national amputee and PTSD veterans hospital

Uniforms

 - Third uniform only worn for special occasions, i.e. senior night, homecoming, championship games, etc.

 - Three sets of crossing swords to remind everyone (left, center, and right fielders) that have to fight for glory

You just KNOW that the Commandos football have a cannon and/or howitzer that they shoot off after touchdowns.

Emerging from the depths of the Chattahoochee River, the Chasers.

LJOyST2.png

Colors

 - Bronze

 - Chaser Charcoal

 - State Silver

Logos

Seal - A modified version of the the seals used by most schools in the University System Of Georgia, with an added cheetah head.

Primary - The primary is a cheetah that is in the "chasing pose". It was clearly influenced by SMU's logo with its front and back legs towards each other. The team name was chosen simply for alliteration's sake.

Secondary - The secondary is the head of the cheetah in the primary.

Tertiary - The tertiary is a cursive C

RAoenS3.png

Field

 - Built alongside the creation of the school's academic buildings, Zaxby's Stadium opened up for the Chaser's inaugural game in the 2006 season, where they promptly went 1-9.

 - Hybrid of Kentucky bluegrass and dark green artificial turf.

Uniforms

 - Chattahoochee State can gloat about being the only school in the Atlantic Gulf to have never changed their uniforms. Now, this is also because they are the youngest school in the AUIA, but that's here, nor there. The original coach/athletic director, Dan Reaves wanted a traditional look like all the other teams he coached. So Nike looked at some designs from other teams, and came up with this UCF-Jaguars mashup. The stripes are technically double stripes, with the cuff acting as the third stripe. This ingenuity allowed for a reasonably sized chaser to be placed on the shoulder caps. The rest of the uniforms follow a simple set of rules: 1. Numbers match stripe color blocking, 2. colors match cuffs, 3. pant stripes match corresponding helmet stripes. They were also one of the first teams to experiment with alternate uniforms, having the gold jersey and silver helmets in 2006, then adding the the silver jersey and charcoal helmet in 2007. All of these elements are interchangeable, although the silver/white/silver has yet to be worn.

lS1lwzc.png

Court

 - Also built prior to the 2006-2007 season, it replaced the City of Cusseta civic center that was demolished to allow for the building of the university. It is open to the public for all non-game nights, however it still is like any other small college basketball arena with concession stands, team stores, etc. However, it is one of the only, if not the only to have a full, commercial gym and an Olympic sized pool underneath the playing surface.

Uniforms

 - Dan Reeves also wanted the uniforms on the court to remain traditional. So, Nike once again turned to a professional team, this time with more of a storied history. The piping mimics the piping used by the Boston Celtics, only having been updated to fit each new uniform template.

dMfHPPj.png

Uniforms

 - Nike was allowed to go a bit more "out of the box" with the hockey uniforms. They went for clunky sleeves and clunky striping. The look was inspired by the old penguins uniforms they had worn when they won the Stanley cup finals. Also with these uniforms, they added a slightly tweaked the traditional striping pattern, going for the same exact 5-stripe pattern worn across all uniforms. The alternate was added later in 2016, going with a simple diagonal "CHASERS" and more traditional striping.

PiyxXAC.png

Field

 - Another 2006 build, Chattahoochee State Park uses the same hybrid turf as the football field and local Georgia clay base paths and warning track. The park logo is the same as their famous cheetah print sign that won awards for the best designed sign in all of college athletics in 2006.

Uniforms

 - Baseball also went for a traditional look, with a bronze/charcoal cap with the script C, and matching collar and cuff striping. The home and away are identical, except the home is white and the away is silver. The alternates are also traditional takes with the script C over the heart and three stripe piping. The two alternate uniforms are also identical, except where bronze and charcoal are swapped. The hats are interchangeable, as all uniforms use enough of each bronze and charcoal to still look good.

Question: Why Chasers instead of Cheetahs?

For some background for the reasoning for the school and team name, here it is. Yazoo City was originally called Hannan's Bluff, then Manchester before being known by it's current moniker. The team name comes from some local lore around the cause of the 1904 fire that burned the vast majority of the town. Locals claimed the fire was started by a deceased witch that sought to avenger her death. This came in 2015 after they were originally called the Rebels since the 1960s and had used witch-like iconography and wordmarks for since 2005.

Logos

- Primary: A stylized M, meant to look like a cauldron containing a blaze of fire

- Secondary: A witches hat with a blaze buckle, primarily used for apparel and a real life witches hat is given to children at their first football or basketball game instead of the usual sticker or pin.

-Tertiary: An interlocking M and U a carryover from the Rebels logo set.

Football

The stadium was built in the 1920s, the stadium has gone through many renovations to increase its capacity and better its amenities. However, it has never changed its neo-classical style and has never been sponsored.

The uniforms all revolve around the blaze of fire found in the primary and secondary logos. The helmets and accessories are all interchangeable with the home and alternate set, however.

Basketball

The arena is sponsored by Back Yard Burgers, a burger restaurant that was founded in nearby Cleveland, Mississippi, and now based in Nashville, Tennessee

The uniforms are rather simple, having only side stripes on the shorts that are commonly called torches.  In the flared out bottom, the players number is present.

Hockey

The uniforms feature a rounded shoulder yoke and a hem stripe based on the torch striping. The breezers have the torch side stripe and the socks have the hem stripes. In case you can't see the difference, the away jersey and socks go indigo/green/violet.

Baseball

The baseball park is sponsored by Mississippi Power, a utility company that serves portions of the state.

The uniforms are more classic in design, with triple stripe pipping and the use of the MU tertiary logo.

I'm getting vibes of Amity from the Owl House with this concept.

Football

The stadium is sponsored by Riceland, a business located in Stuttgart and is the largest rice miller and marketer in the world.

The football uniforms use two distinct striping patterns, both based on the font. The primary jerseys have shoulder stripes that ended up being a love-child of the classical Jets uniform and the UCLA stripes. The helmet and pants stripe is simply putting two of the jersey stripes together, and voila! The alternate jersey just moves the shoulder stripes to the shoulder caps.

Basketball

The arena is sponsored by Windstream, a Little Rock based communication and managing services company.

The basketball uniforms use the helmet/pant stripe, but separated. The asymmetrical approach was inspired by the current Memphis set and the blue/green Hawks uniforms. The alternate uniform drops the side panel and pants logo and instead uses a harness pattern, similar to the T-Wolves and Wizards.

Hockey

The hockey uniforms carry on from the basketball alternates, with the harness pattern being used on the sleeves and the football jersey stripe being used on the hem. The breezers and socks use the basketball stripe, with the breezers using two stripes and the socks using three. The alternate uses the same separated stripe on the shoulders and arms, alluding to the baseball sets.

Baseball

All of the uniforms use racing stripes on the shoulders, and continues down the side of the pants in the form of thicker side stripes. The away set blue, like the powder blue fad in the 1970s MLB, as well as the maroon alternates similar to the old Phillies uniform. There is a total of four cap options, two blue and two maroon, the only difference being each color has a primary logo option and a secondary logo option. All of the caps can be worn with any of the uniforms, but the primary cap is always the color of the wordmark and with the primary logo (primary blue with home and alternate, primary maroon with away).

Is there an honorary "Frank The Tank" in the student sections for the season?

Yes, the idea is that Danville, Kentucky is near a town called Perryville, named for Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry (the namesake for the college) who is dubbed the Hero of Lake Erie. So like the Mighty Ducks, Commodore College partnered with Disney for their nickname and mascot.

Sounds like Donald and The Oregon Duck have some friends. Also, Is there a Commodore Perry or a Dr. Doofenschmirtz along for the ride?

Named for Warren Elmer Blackhurst, a local author who lived in the area his whole life and wrote stories surrounding the life of people in Southeastern West Virginia. The athletic teams are named for one of his more well known books, Riders of the Flood.

Really enjoying some more NE schools! Love the color palette for River Toms.

Glad to hear that! Unfortunately, the current conference is based in the DMV and Mid-Atlantic area, so most of the teams will be from Maryland and Virginia in this conference the rest of the way. Although, the conference right after Delmarva Bays is based in the Northeast.
