E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!

Recommended Posts

An image of the Eagles throwbacks appeared in the Buccaneer Update thread and it’s amazing.  Why on earth do the Eagles stick to their current scheme when the kelly green, silver, and white look so awesome together?

Do Philly fans prefer the current scheme or do they long for the golden days of yore?  And fans in Philly care to offer up an answer/opinion?

May be better suited for general discussion.

The Eagles want the one-helmet rule relaxed so they can go with green throwbacks, but they've never said which era.  I thought I heard them say the Cunningham/Reggie set, but I might be misremembering.

They have no plans to go back full time without doing a trial first.  Midnight green is Jeff Lurie's "stamp" on the team.  It's not my favorite color, but it's tolerable, and I generally think they have classy yet contemporary uniforms (except for the black trash.)  The helmet wings aren't my favorite either.

As for the fans, given the choice, I'm sure most would say they'd want the old green, but I really don't think most people care.  If asked, they'd probably say go with throwbacks, but if not asked, I don't think it's on the top of most people's minds.

EDIT: what mafia family are you in?  You sure that disclosing that connection is wise?  What if the feds are scanning the board?

Not a Philly fan, but I like both schemes a lot.

I'll say that the midnight green is underrated and is a very cool color in its own right. Whether it's dazzle fabric or matte, I think it looks pretty awesome.

I'm an Eagles fan, though not from Philly. Unlike Vet, I think the current wings are the best their helmets have ever looked. Any concept I've seen with the current wings and kelly green always look off to me for some reason. I think any of the older iterations of the helmet work for a throwback, but not a full-time look.

I'd be content if the Eagles never changed their uniforms again... and I'm not just saying that because they wore them when they became the Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles. I love how the Eagles own midnight green within major North American sports. You see that colour, and you know it's the Eagles. Yes, they follow the typical 90s template of contrasting cuffs/collar, logos on the sleeves, and a unique but not outlandish number font but I think that is a standard that has aged well. With the Bucs reverting back to a similar look, I think that this template is almost becoming a "classic" at this point. If/when the one helmet rule goes away, IMO the Eagles should be no different than the Bucs in having the best of both worlds, a classy and contemporary look (as Vet put it) with some killer throwbacks for the kelly green and creamsicle lovers out there.

Aside from the black alternates, I think the Eagles current unis always look balanced too. The black socks work with any uniform/pant combinations and you never get the full leotard look. The primary logo on the sleeves works great since it's not on the helmet too.

The change I'd make to the current scheme would be to modify the wings to be solid silver rather than the silver and white inside the black, and work in silver or gray pants.

Unpopular opinion - a gray alt with the green/gray/black numbers from the white jersey would be my choice if they needed an alt.  I don't think they do, but it seems like they do.

I could live with the midnight green if they went back to the old wings.

I don’t think the current set is bad at all...but when compared to the throwbacks, it’s not even close as to which one is better!

Definitely agree. The dark green with black is such a downer look, at least it is compared with other teams. A good uniform really needs a bright color. Maybe not the current Seahawks green, but that throwback Eagles green is irresistable.

It’s amazing how color bland the NFL has become, isn’t it?  Seattle’s a dark rainy-day look, the Eagles are a green and black that are hard to tell apart, and Denver is dark navy, amongst other teams.  Those old Eagles uniforms were fantastic!

This photo easily demonstrates how much better the midnight is to the kelly. If you swapped in the lighter green, your eyes would be immediately drawn to the Eagles player instead of both he and the Jets player. You want to see both teams look good. Not one get drowned out by the other.

And they play each other how often?

The point is, midnight fairs much better in matchups compared to kelly. A backhanded “How often do they play?” comment doesn’t hold much ground.

I’d rather see this...

Whoops had a grammar slip. We all have them.

I can tell you’re a little too overzealous in your opinions, but to each their own

Well, I was about 8 years old (1978) when I picked my favorite NFL teams on the basis of their uniforms...

1.  Miami Dolphins

2.  Philadelphia Eagles

3.  Houston Oilers

4.  Tampa Bay Buccaneers

5.  Detroit Lions

6.  Atlanta Falcons

7.  Seattle Seahawks

Good list. Wouldn’t have pegged you for a Dolphins fan though.
