I know Boston has come close a few times. In 1986, with the Red Sox, Patriots, and Celtics all making the championship. But only the Celtics winning. Similar story in 07/08, Celtics & Red Sox won, but Patriots lost that Super Bowl '18/19 was another chance. Red Sox & Patriots won, but this time it was The Bruins that fell short. Just curious what cities managed that feat, or have also come so very close. As far as I know, no team has swept all 4 major championships (NBA, NHL,NFL & MLB) in the same season. Also, the LA metropolitan area won a major-minor Grand Slam in 2002 when the Lakers, Angels, Galaxy and Sparks all won their respective championships. Glover Posted May 12, 2020 Share Posted May 12, 2020 In 2016 the Cavs won the NBA championship, the Indians went to extra innings in Game 7 of the World Series but fell short, and the Browns were attempting to make history as well (they had to wait another season to do so, however). And to claim the "double crown" we have to go back to the 1950s with a franchise that's been in LA since the early 1960s. Wow. Sad. Detroit's MLB, NFL, and NHL franchises combined to win a "Triple Crown" in the 1930s. Before the advent of the National Basketball Association, Detroit played host to the 1935 World Series-winning Tigers, the 1935 NFL Championship-winning Lions, and the winners of the Stanley Cup following the 1935-36 NHL season, the Red Wings. During the 1940s, the Tigers played in the 1940 and 1945 World Series, winning the latter. The Lions didn't play in an NFL Championship during the 1940s.
