NBA has a 75th Anniversary logo for 2021-22

I wish the ball would have been more centered. Ditto with the feet.

EDIT: Something like this rough MS Paint edit, but maybe even a bit more to the left so that the ball could be centered, and the feet would be right in the diamond crease.

The Valley jerseys would only be acceptable if they said Phoenix or Suns. That a team might win its first championship in a jersey that says something completely different from its team name is kinda ridiculous. Any statues or tributes that are made would immortalize “the valley” and not their actual team Brand.

it’s worse than the Cavs sleeved win, which at least had part of their logo on it.

At least “The Valley” is an actual thing people call the region and not just a glorified marketing slogan

Personally I find the red 'North' jerseys being worn when the Raptors sealed the championship to be pretty significant and meaningful. 'We The North' was embraced by Raptors fans and I think it means more than just being a "glorified marketing symbol". The fact that the lone Canadian team won the championship in their jersey that reflects this status is symbolic of the team's -- and the sport's -- rise in the country during the WTN era, and I don't think many Raptors fans would want it any other way.

I wish the Suns city uniforms said either Phoenix or Suns, but it’s the one city jersey I don’t mind a team wearing throughout the playoffs. It’s their best uniform by far. They should build a set around it. It’s gorgeous.

Agree with all of this, and would also point out that it feels like a very natural evolution of the Barkley era uniforms (again, assuming a normal wordmark), which is a big reason why they work so well besides the aesthetics. Might just be my age but those 90s Suns looks are definitive to me.

I don't disagree that The Valley jerseys look nice, but I'm having a hard time seeing them as an evolution from the Barkley era uniforms. If anything, the 2013-14 was the closest the Suns have come to building off that look, and it was a poor attempt at that. I don't see the similarities, though, in the current city jersey.

I don't usually comment on these type of things, but to me there should be one NBA discussion thread where we can talk about this season, future seasons, past seasons, whatever. I don't understand why two threads are needed. This applies to all league threads, it's just a pet peeve of mine.

Also, all major unveilings should have their own thread.

Glad the Bucks going with some tradition for the most part and man do I hate that "basketballsun" jersey for the Suns.

It's pretty wild that throughout their existence the Suns haven't been able to come up with a great orange jersey. I think this is the best one they've had, but the side panels should've been purple instead of grey.

As a Raptors fan I would've preferred it if they had won wearing one of their primary jerseys, but at the end of the day it really doesn't bother me. Luckily if they decide to build a statue honouring the championship it'll probably be Kawhi's series winning shot against Philly wearing the regular white uniform.

Probably because people don't want to have to sift through a 1000+ page thread.

No, no, no.

This is about a thousands times better than the awful late 2000s set:

Yes, it's hokey that it doesn't say "Phoenix" or "Suns" anywhere. But still. It's aesthetically superior in every way.

Replace purple with black, put the current side panels on the pants and you’ve got a a winner

If there was a purple or black stroke around the logo to help it stand out from the orange jersey, I wouldn’t mind this at all. Not a great primary, but as an alternate, it would be fine.

I don't see the similarities, either.  They have a slanted wordmark... that's about it.

I’ll agree that the 2000’s PHX uniforms weren’t good at all, but the current orange alternate is still pretty bad for its own reasons. Aside from the sun being lazily slapped on the chest, it suffers from the same problems the white and purple sets do, namely the super outdated butt stripe and sharp, pointy, tapered stripes on the sides that scream “modern for modern sake”. The sunburst/streak on the shorts* has always been cool, but that’s about it.

The timing could be weird with thier recent success, but the Suns could really use a revamp of thier uniforms (not necessarily a rebrand, just a hard reset on strictly the uniforms). Either something Valley inspired or something more deliberately inspired by any pre-2000’s classic set would do. And hopefully, they’d finally get a truly good orange uniform for the first time out of it.

*Haha, “streak on the shorts”

I agree. The Suns, to me, are kind of an oddity. They're a lot like the Hawks by having a series of generally inventive uniforms in 70s-90s that preceded a succession of really mediocre-to-bad designs.

I really loved the '70s-80s Suns look, which was unique, but very much a product of its time. That Barkley-era set, though, was way ahead of its time, especially the jersey. (I didn't care for the shorts as much, with "Phoenix" angled across the left leg.)

Good lord, who thought this monstrosity was ever a good idea? They later lost the garbage bag sheen, but still managed to look terrible.

I guess I'm a bit blinded by nostalgia, since the Nash/D'Antoni-era Suns are what got me into the NBA.

If Phoenix does end up winning in The Valley uniforms, maybe they pull a Raptors and redesign the primary set to match the championship look.

The black base, the angled elements, the team colors used in a faux-gradient effect across the chest. I instantly thought of the 90s classics when these new ones were unveiled.

The set you posted does, too, but in different ways (and screwed up the color balance in all kinds of ways).

As an aside, I don’t remember when I learned the Suns had been around since the 60s but I was surprised to learn that. I grew up with the 90s sunburst era and initially figured them to fit in with that Hornets/Heat vintage. Apologies to Paul Westphal but maybe never shaking that off is why the sunburst unis are so definitive to me.

I guess I can see it more now that I recall there there was a black version of the Barkley-era uniforms. But my mind goes directly to the initial white and purple versions, which is why it's harder for me to make the link.

On your other point, I probably would have been surprised by the Suns' 60s origins, too, were it not for their game 5, triple OT loss to the Celtics in the '76 Finals showing up in every "greatest games of all-time" highlight film I watched in the late 80s.

An aside to your aside: The Suns had only played one playoff series prior to that year, and were a surprise entrant in the Finals. I presume, then, that they were massive underdogs against the Celtics. But that series was surprisingly close -- tied 2-2 -- going into that Triple OT game. You have to wonder if Phoenix came out on top, whether they'd have benefited from the momentum swing and taken the series.  They'd have joined the likes of Milwaukee, Seattle, Washington and Portland as teams winning their one and only NBA titles during that strange decade.

The funniest thing about it is when I hear “The Valley”, Phoenix’s “Valley of the Sun” is maybe 50th on the list of prominent valleys that come to my mind. I hear “The Valley” and I almost instantly think of Pasadena and the old “Valley girl” trope. There are several Valleys around my general area that even come to mind before Phoenix ever does. It’s akin to having a uniform that reads DOWNTOWN. Sure, you’ve got one, but so does everyone else.

I guess that’s actually fitting considering Phoenix fills in the gaps between their southwest culture by basically aping Southern California culture.
