It's weird to see a team describe uniforms but not get the details 100% correct.

1997 - Black pants for road games now featured a purple stripe instead of a white stripe

No...the black pants still had white stripes.

And my unpopular opinion is the Ravens should go back to the double outlined serifed numbers, like the 1996 jerseys had them.

Correct.  It was W/P/W.

. . . and that is an unpopular opinion.  Those numbers might work if they were smailler, but they were ridiculously large on the 1996 jerseys.  Meanwhile, I love the current ones.

The original shield logo was really nice, though I never liked how it looked on the helmet. The raven head is better in that regard.

I tend to agree.  And the right-side / standard Raven logo looks good with the B. However, putting the B on the other side of the helmet is disastrous since they have to change the shape of the letter (something KC, the Niners, the Packers, and the Bears don't have to do). I'd like to see them take the B off of the helmet. Even if they want to keep it on the right-facing bird for other products.

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."

The current Ravens wordmark has those big serifs...putting them back on the numbers would look pretty good. I think they really only affected 1, 2, and 7.

This isn't a game worn...but pushing the numbers looks way better than the bad spacing of the '96 unis:

Those numbers are comical.  I don't love the current ones but they're much better.

I've come to like the Ravens look - when they limit their options to purple over white, purple over black, and white over white.

The helmet logo is among the worst in the league.  I don't have a suggestion to improve it but it's horrible.  The orginal is better, but still a very awkward shape to be on the side of a helmet.

Those pants look terrible, like the most generic stock pants possible. Both number sets the Ravens have used are bad; I'd always hoped they'd use something a little less cartoonish, something more like what the New Orleans Hornets used in 2008, or maybe something close to the Pirates' numbers. Colored jerseys should never ever ever be worn with white socks, and especially not with black pants. It looks ridiculous. The original primary is not great, the raven head is worse. The shield they use now at center field is really good. Use that.

Baltimore could pull off mono black, I wouldn't mind. I generally don't like it but it would work for them. Better than black/purple/black/white.

I really liked the original helmet shield and prefer it to the Raven head logo. For whatever reason, the Raven head logo has felt too XFL or even Arena Football League for me. Too bad they had to make the change since they stole the the shield logo from that fan...

Have always felt the Ravens are a team that are just a few tiny tweaks away from pretty close to timeless. Get the B out of the logo. Kill those dumb helmet stripes. Get stripes on the black pants. Wear purple socks with the black pants. That's about all they need. The number font and secondary logo aren't great, but I can live with them.

The unfortunate reality is that if/when the Ravens do a redesign, they are sure to go way overboard with changes.

The Pirates' numbers, much like most themed numbers, border on cartoonish to me.  That style works perfectly for their wordmark, but plain MLB block or varsity block would be better for their numbers.  I think the Ravens would look better with something that's sleek but "plain".  Honestly, the Steelers numbers would work for them.

I feel less strongly about the white socks thing - especially if they're just white on the top and then have color underneath,

Regardless, the Ravens are a team that can get away with the yoga pants look - when they wear their purple jerseys with the black pants.  I love that look.  I liked it a lot more when dark-on-dark was less common than it is today, but I still think it's very much in line with their identity.  Maybe purple socks would work with black pants?

I like this a lot:

They could certainly pull it off, but I'd rather them just lose the black jerseys altogether.  I generally don't think that teams should worry about what their division rivals are wearing when selecting their colors, and they're never going to be confused with the Steelers even when wearing black tops, but I'd just rather them have separate color schemes.

EDIT:

To your point about white socks with colored jerseys, I'll give you that this looks ridiculous.  That's not what I had in mind.

Should this be in 'discussion' if we're adhering to the guidelines?

I think the Ravens have a terrific look outside of that awful primary logo. They should design something that is similar to that (without being straight up stolen, like the original logo was) combined with the current logo on the sleeves or something. That may be hard to do, though.

That was changed because it was too difficult to read the numbers on TV. Looked good close up, not so much on a small screen. No hi-def TVs back then.

Also their 1996 black pants/purple jersey combo was the first time I'm aware of that an NFL team didn't wear light-colored pants with their colored jersey.
