Tampa Bay Buccaneers Unveil New Uniforms

In my opinion, there are still problems with the uniforms that the Buccaneers introduced today. The so-called "Terminator" skull logo introduced in 2014 is still woefully out of place, design-wise, within the context of a team identity that hearkens to figures from the 17th and 18th century for inspiration.

May be true, but when the masses think of a buccaneer they think of a pirate, and when they think of a pirate the Jolly Roger probably isn't far behind.

No. Twitter never has and never will represent "the general public." Nor do any polls on Instagram, Facebook, MySpace, TikTok or any other social media platform. If something is or isn't popular on Twitter, it means a vocal minority has an opinion on something, and that's it.

Well then. If I had any credibility on this board, I clearly don’t anymore. I’m gonna go sink back to my hole now.

So the dozen or so people who bought Trent Dilfer jerseys 18 years ago can safely swap out Brady's name on the back and consider themselves sufficiently updated.

Can’t believe Nike got this so right

Did they really though? It's basically the Super Bowl set with new logos. It looks great, yes, but I don't see much Nike handiwork here.

It seems more like the Bills' last redesign under Reebok, where the team had a vision and just had the manufacturers make what they wanted.

If anything this is proof to the rest of the league that they have the ability to dictate things to Nike, and not have it be the other way around.

I think someone might have mentioned it already but the pewter alt is essentially the same color blocking as the creamsicle era unis, just orange swapped for pewter. Same white numbers with red outline and R/W/R pant striping on the colored pants. In that sense I'm OK with this uni. Granted I'd still prefer if they had used the numbers from the home red jersey and just used the normal pewter pants.

No because when the Irish came to Ireland and first came in contact with the leprechaun people, they didn't take their land away and force them to move west. Instead, the two groups learned to assimilate peacefully. However, certain tribes of the leprechaun refused to taint the pure blood and moved north into the forests of Ireland, only to be seen rarely, usually at the same time of a rainbows appearance and occasionally at the factories of Lucky Charms.

Is the black stroke around the numbers thicker than the s.b. set?  On the fanatics site they look thicker but in the player pics they don’t. Maybe it’s just the fanatics jerseys? Their (fanatics) jerseys always seem to be a little off, the images at least.

Is Fanatics using real photos or digital renderings?  That could explain quite a lot.

Pretty sure Fanatics is using digital renderings

I don't doubt that for a moment. Further, I don't have a problem with a depiction of a "Jolly Roger" flag being a part of - indeed, the centerpiece of - the Buccaneers' logo package. Not at all.

Rather, I find it anachronistic - design-wise - for the skull upon said flag to be rendered in a style that has more in common with imagery from The Terminator films than it does with the 17th and 18th century period of seafaring that inspired the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' identity. I find it jarring that the swords on said flag are line-perfect recreations of the sword which serves as the makeshift flagstaff for the Jolly Roger itself, when the aesthetic of the period which inspires the Buccaneers' identity would have seen the design elements on a "Jolly Roger" rendered in a cruder style.

Bottom line? My problem isn't with the "Jolly Roger" itself, but with the style in which it's rendered.

If what you’re trying to say is that the new pewter doesn’t work well for the uniforms, I think you’re completely mistaken. This new pewter most definitely works for the uniforms and in fact is a worthy update over the early 2000’s set.

I'm not trying to say anything.. I'm saying that with black included in the uniform, the pewter that contrasted a bit more with the black was a better choice.. there is no mistaking the fact that the newer pewter is essentially "light black" (the Pantone name is literally "Black 7")... Black and another black don't contrast nearly as well as black and pewter.. and operating under the idea that black REALLY worked for the super bowl set and is somewhat essential to this basic look, then choosing the colors that work best together is important, and the current pewter doesn't work best with the black (or darker red imo)

The only thing keeping these from being a A+ is that they kept the giant helmet logo. Otherwise fantastic rebrand. Glad they kept the orange.

One other nitpick besides that is that the pewter uniforms should only be worn with white pants (and/or red socks) and they never will be.

Anyway my thoughts as a new Bucs fan...

I was hoping for an update of the creamsicles but that was always a distant dream. The Super Bowl set is an amazing consolation prize.

All in all? It looks amazing. The orange number outlines? Yes. Yes. Yes. It looks so good. I actually like Paul Lukas, but I am glad he was wrong about these.

Maybe his source was FormerLurker 🤔

The black ship doesn't bother me at all. They were black on the original Super Bowl look after all, and no one thought "Raiders" then (except maybe Al Davis).

And while I get @BrandMooreArt's desire for consistency? Colour rush unis have always played fast and loose with team colours, so I don't see the ship being red on the pewter jerseys as being a problem.

The continued use of the newer logos is a disappoint. I had hoped they would, at least, get rid of the silver shading. Even then though...the home and roads are so good that I can accept the logos. They're not as good as they could be, but the uniforms are such a huge improvement over the previous clown suits that it's hard to hold that against this overall upgrade.

The pewter colour rush though...I'm not feeling it. Monochrome sucks on a base level, and I've never liked the idea of pewter outside of the helmet and pants. Still it'll be worn what? Once a year?

Overall? They hit a home run and Tom'll look hot in the new-old identity 😛

And again...this isn't "Nike getting it right." This is the team having a vision and sticking to it. It shows no hallmarks of a usual Nike over-design, and it looks gorgeous because of it.

This is proof positive that there's a lot of value in going back and admitting a change was a mistake. I hope more teams take note.

This is still the best the Jags ever looked.

While this is true, the current Jags are teal and/or gold number trim and some pants stripes away from having a great set. Currently they look like practice jerseys, and I know that comparison gets thrown around a lot around these parts, but with the Jags it's actually true.

I just want to add that pewter is such a strange and specific color that it sometimes feels as if its sole existence is for this uniform. It’s uncanny how well it works here. Whoever suggested to adopt it in the original redesign is an unsung hero.

Other than the color rush set, this is a huge improvement. I could do without the giant helmet decals, but whatever. The Bucs look like an NFL team again. I’m sure they’ll look even better when they debut the new look on the field in September of 2026. 😎

My only thought for the color rush pewters would be to add a thin stroke of orange to the outside of the numerals and pant stripe.

This would bring the stroke weight in line with other jerseys and keep that orange across all three sets.

You could probably put the road numbers on the pewter jersey and have one set of pewter pants and be fine. The contrast wouldn't be great, but the outlines are so thick the numbers would be legible.

Huge improvement, by far the best redesign of the past few years. I don't think there's really anything I hate about this set. Sure, the logo on the helmet is still a little big, but it didn't bother me that much before. The tweaked color scheme is great, the new alternate logo is, for lack of a better term, badass (which is what one should think of when thinking about pirates). I don't mind the alternate either. For being a monochrome grey look, it's about as good as one could get.

The Bucs did a great job here using the old set as a template and adding a bit of a modern flair.

I disagree. Even with gold and teal the current ones are still super bland and generic.

I’ve stated in other threads that I usually have a thing against complete reversions to a previous set.  But I will gladly take this back over what they just had.  I actually preferred a complete reversion over what UniWatch described (was dreading the complete lack of orange trim).  I’m also a fan of the modern tweaks, especially the road NOB being black instead of red.

Like most here, not a fan of the Color Rush, but I do feel like they would be improved if they kept the chrome facemask just for this set.

edit:  one last point.  LOVE that they went back to the old red and orange
