You know, just my 2 cents, I think it’s really dumb when teams trot out a nickname like this that only people from the area will get. Like it’s a pretty general thought that “Titletown” refers to Green Bay and “America’s Team” refers to Dallas and etc.   But when we get something like this it’s just dumb because 98% of the population has no clue what the hell that is. I feel like it’s poor marketing/branding on the teams part.

It’s not even used by the locals, it’s something that was used by a newspaper columnist in the 70’s trying to compare Tampa with New York

Ripped out specifically by an alien with tiny footballs for hands and no genitalia.

Badass indeed.

His hands aren’t small. He guarantees you there’s no problem. He guarantees you.

On a related note, that logo needs more orange.

I've lived in Tampa going on four years now (Jesus time flies). This draft cap is the first time I've ever read or heard the phrase "Big Guava."

I’m not a local, but my relatives live in St. Pete and I’ve been there on and off hundreds of times and I’ve never heard of it either...ever.

I've lived in the Bay area my entire life and the only time I've ever heard anything in reference to a guava is Guavaween. It's not something locals use either, except for the Halloween party.

The answer to what “Big Guava” is came from my grandma, actually. It was coined by a Tampa Tribune columnist, as a reference to the unsuccessful quest for Guava trees that led to Ybor City. It’s a really interesting dive into my hometown’s history.

Yes it very much is. I got DEEP down the rabbit hole on that one yesterday.

I've been here since 1992 and have never heard it.

Wait, what?  🤣

Yep, it’s basically the city nickname version of one of Uniwatch’s many Lukas-isms. It’s stupid, it’s obscure as all hell, and nobody except a small few actually know what the 🤬 they’re talking about.

I've got a dribbble, check it out if you like my stuff; alternatively, if you hate my stuff, send it to your enemies to punish their insolence!

When I was a kid my mom would occasionally get guava juice from the grocery. It was pink and tasted like heaven. Never really see it in stores anymore. Maybe I should move to Tampa...specifically the Ybor City area.
