Make no mistake... if you're excited about the one helmet rule going away you are on "Team Crazy-multiple-helmets".  You are.  That's the side you're taking, period.

This is one of the dumber things I've ever read on these forums, "period". And I lived through the entire Tnak era.

From day one of my life, I've been in favor of one helmet, one cap, home-road, etc.  Now that I'm older, I enjoy the occasional (like... once a year) throwback game. That doesn't at all mean that I'm on the "team crazy-multiple helmets" train - in fact, I'm 100% against that, and always have been.

I don't know that I'd use the word "excited" to describe how I feel, but being able to see Carson Wentz wear the Randall Cunningham-style uniform once would be fun for me.

Here's a tip - don't paint everyone with a broad brush, in any walk of life.

More than just the Bucs coach has confirmed it...

It's not just Arians talking out of his backside. NFL confirms that it is being considered for 2021.

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2020/03/25/one-helmet-rule-could-change-for-2021/

from the article - “There will be no change for the 2020 season,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told PFT via email. “There are ongoing discussions for a potential change for the 2021 season, but no decisions have been made.”

It's where I sit.

Very true. Which is why some of us should be careful what we wish for when we ask for the MLS contract to go to bid.

How much worse could Nike do? Adidas has been completely botching it for the last few seasons.

At least Nike won't let the biggest US soccer league sit on the back burner because there's a World Cup, Euro 2020, Champions League or Olympics. Nor would they place a  Europa League team as a higher priority than the top teams in MLS. And if a design sucks, it only lasts two years, then it gets replaced. adidas' EQT 25 baloney is annoying as hell. IT's just a Condivo 20 with one sleeve pattern that everyone was forced to use because they came up with the idea for Europe and UEFA said, "Nope! Not allowing that design here". With Nike reportedly staying away from templated looks, at least for now anyways, it gives teams multiple ways to stand out from other teams in the league with similar color patterns.

Here's my feeling on the matter. The NFL will still step in front of a team and say, "That doesn't fit how we want to look, not approved"! They've become super involved in team changes, even if it doesn't appear that way. Teams like Washington, Tampa Bay, San Diego (Dan Fouts and LT eras) and Pittsburgh have older looks that could look great but lose their luster because they wouldn't be able to use the correct lid. I would hope we avoid the NBA style City edition uniforms that have none of a team's colors even involved in teh look. That's one thing the NFL has been good about and it looks like MLB is pulling back towards that as well since they are adding patches to jerseys for Mother's Day, Father's Day and Memorial Day instead of pink, light blue and camo.

My money's on monochrome Pewter or monochrome Black with Pewter numbers etc. Both sound terrible yet 🔥 enough to make sense.

Took me a while to find this, but I had to go dig back through my "Monochrome Madness" thread from like ten years ago or something to find this image I mocked up of my cousin...how prophetic does that thread seem now?

The NFL has historically done just that - stepped in and regulated whenever a team wanted to have more than one regular helmet (though I can only think of the Seahawks as an example.)  There's always a chance that they loosen up, which would be very bad.  I don't think Nike cares much about helmets, however if they want to make (sell) an all-black uniform for the Chiefs, they may influence the Chiefs to adopt a special black alt helmet too.  I'd hope that the league branding people would step in and deny that... but the trend in pro sports these days is just the opposite.

The only difference is that Nike doesn't sell helmets - but again, they may need the helmet to go along with something else that they are selling.

Will be very interesting to see how the pewter matches. If what Lukas said was accurate the helmet and pants match better but still not dazzle material. That will be the key to an all pewter uniform looking good unless it’s not color rush and just an 3rd jersey which they pair with white pants . Does this entail the helmet undergoing a change to a flatter more matte finish ?

Not sure if Arians is saying the creamsicles are the best uniforms in the league period or if they’re simply the best throwbacks in the league, but that combined with his comments during the combine about having no input in the design of the new set would lead me to believe they might have gone in a different direction altogether if he did.

And people think that orange and pewter don’t mix?  Pewter + pewter evidently = YUCK!

You sure?  What if the NFL decided "Alternate Helmet Thursday" would be a possible way to raise TNF ratings? Green Bay has fallen in line before...

How disgusting of the Packers! The NFL mandated them to make a color rush and they added *gasps* WHITE PANTS!? Lombardi is rolling in his grave....

If you're telling me you got upset because once a year the Pack wore white pants (which not going to lie, even though I much prefer the gold pants, these are not ugly), then wow.

I honestly can't stand the Nike hate. Any brand will go as crazy as a team/league will allow them too. You're telling me they had a chance to make packer all gold color rushes and then nike went "Nah, just make white pants which we can't sell to people anyways." Nike would have 100% preferred a gold jersey they could actually sell to people.

same, nike has done a pretty good job with sports, i just wish that they left the mlb alone and that they used the same jersey materials that Reebok did, looked shinier and cooler imo

Yeah, how'd that "game or two a season" turn out with the alternate jerseys?

spacer.png

It really didn't have a super huge impact? I think some people are getting very frustrated on this thread for something that is only being speculated, which would still be a revert back to something that we similarly had before. No team's identity was squandered or mistaken then.

Its two games a season. Let people be excited to see the good, the throwback, and the ugly (seriously could you imagine a snot green helmet for the Seahawks that would be hilarious).
