Minnesota Twins will now officially recognize their Washington history

The one that's a real mess is the Charlotte Bobcats changing their name to "Charlotte Hornets" and claiming the prior Hornets history.

Ten years after George Shinn moved the original Hornets to New Orleans, the New Orleans Hornets announced they would be renamed the Pelicans and that the team history and records would go to the Bobcats who were then renamed the Charlotte Hornets.

The whole thing makes about as much sense as the Cleveland Browns/Baltimore Ravens situation,

It's really not that hard. If the team played in Charlotte, the current Hornets get that history. If the team played in New Orleans (/Oklahoma City) the current Pelicans get it. The team never should've left and certainly never should've taken the name, so history was righted when it occurred, regardless of what people who aren't fans of the team say.

This is coming from an "Oilers name should stay in Houston" guy, but the history was wronged. It's cool if a city wants to celebrate city heroes (especially if they never played in the relocated city), but don't forge record books to make people feel better. If the Oilers name came back to Houston, it would still be asinine to call Earl Campbell the franchise's leading rusher, just as it is to call Muggsy Bogues or Larry Johnson members of the same franchise as Gerald Wallace and Kemba Walker. They're not.

Regardless of the debates over where history belongs:

I think it was nice of the Twins to wait until Washington won a world series to do this, whether that was the intention or not. Kinda feels :censored:ty to brag about the success of your franchise in a city it abandoned to remain title-less.

Looking back, to make the whole Browns Ravens thing transition more cleanly they should have put the 1995 Browns players under contract for 1996 up in a dispersal draft, given the Ravens an expansion draft, number one pick, etc and brought the Browns back in 1999 as they did

Am I imagining things or did they have a poster of Walter Johnson on the upper-deck curtain of the Metrodome?

You might be imagining it. As far as I can tell they only hanged posters of Minnesota players who had their number retired. I do not believe they ever had the big train up there but maybe it was a one time thing no one bothered documenting
