Maybe not the name but the Indian head logo may return someday (or the Florida St-esqe Spear look). Whatever side you're on this often heated issue, can we all at least agree that fans will not miss Daniel Snyder's tenure as the team's owner. Whatever they call themselves in the near-future, I'll still refer to them as the "Ex-Redskins" (or "Ex-Skins" or "FedEx-Skins") I still miss the Houston Oilers (the Tennessee Titans' new look is beyond dreadful though their original look was acceptable). That said, the Texans brand is fine as it is and we don't need a Cleveland Browns-like scenario. Despite the controversies surrounding the Washington franchise with this sexual harassment bombshell not helping any matters, Redskins-related memorabilia seem to be in high demand. I searched "NFL Pennants", "NFL Shirts", "NFL Hoodies", "NFL Posters", "NFL Helmets", etc on eBay just for the fun of it and in most cases the top result is a Redskins item or as I scroll down the page, I noticed a high amount of Redskns gear. On "NFL Shirts" alone, 14 of the top 15 items as I scrolled on page 1 are Washington Redskins shirts and a few more show up as I scrolled down the page. Wow. Someone's trying really hard for a reaction. Digby
Also the Houston Oilers should just ship their brand to the future Inglewood Clippers. Oil derricks and the only good color scheme the Clippers ever had. This is my new white whale. I still am not used to calling them the LA Chargers and it will sound weird for awhile. This is mostly habit, but the move was so dumb that it still just sounds unnatural. But Washington changing their name makes a lot more sense, so I'll have no problem adjusting. As for what to, Warriors sounds so generic to me, especially if they steer clear of any Native imagery, as they should. Red Wolves sounds less generic than other *Color* *Animal* names because it is a specific species of wolf. And wolf mascots are underused in the pros. I would not be disappointed if that's the name they go with. That said Redtails is my favorite. It has been interesting seeing this logo everywhere as people have discussed new names. I'm 90% certain I first saw that as a concept on these boards years ago, right?
BBTV
If even the team itself acknowledges that the name is at best offensive and even a slur, shouldn’t the title of this thread be changed so as to avoid using it? DCarp1231
Whenever the new name is unveiled, would you be okay if the team included “EST. 1932” in any merchandise, etc.? It isn’t like they’ll be an entirely brand new franchise. They aren’t dropping nearly 90 years of history either. What I imagine they’ll do is avoid any use of EST. 1932 as to not cause confusion amongst general fans.
BBTV
Great question. What do they do now? Do they celebrate anniversaries that pertain to the franchises start in Boston? Or do they only start counting from the move to Washington? Theyre keeping the records and lineage so it’s fine if they say 1932 since that is for the franchise. Since the whole controversy with Cleveland, I now am on the side of starting over when a team moves and changes it’s name, but I’ve not given it much thought when it’s one or the other. I don’t think I’d find either wrong, even if “est 2020” is technically wrong. Habit is one thing and mindlessly calling something the name you've always known it as makes sense. My question was geared towards the other guy who was basically saying he was digging his heels in and refusing to call the team by the new name. My local arena adopted a corporate sponsor probably about 15 years ago and I still find myself slipping up and calling it by it's old name sometimes. Being a creature of habit is different than flat-out refusing to accept a change.

Which is why Seattle NHL fans will be disappointed in any brand that's less than outstanding, while the Washington NFL crowd will be delighted if the new identity just doesn't suck. FiddySicks
One thing that’s always been surprising and disappointing to me is that there really isn’t a single American top tier pro sports team that uses the domesticated dog as their mascot. With as popular as domesticated canines are, how do we not have a single pro team with some sort of a dog theme? The Browns don’t count because they 1/16 ass the entire thing, and wolves don’t work because they’re still wild animals. I’d be down with the Washington Labs or Retrievers or something. Or, and stay with me here, Howabout a more northern breed of dog? I got it! The Washington Huskies. Boom. I think we’ve got a winner here.
