Washington NFL Franchise Retires Name and Logo

Wait, did they change the cuff striping to just yellow? Why change the pants striping to a triple stripe instead of the double one? How are the :censored:ing this up when they haven’t even started rebranding? They just needed to take off the name from the front. Maybe put the numbers in a white circle on the helmet.

This also disproves a few “you can’t do anything at such short notice” arguments. You CAN , it’s just a matter of will and money

Burgandy numbers in a white circle - with the same athletic gold outline - would actually look pretty good. Kind of a racing vibe.

Never thought I'd see the day where we'd have two modern-era NFL teams with numbers on the sides of helmets.

Looks like we’re getting a new font-

And uniform news!

‪The new wordmark features tails at the top. ‬

‪Is that a subtle hint of the name being Washington Redtails? ‬

I don’t see this as any different than when North Dakota Athletics went nameless.

Also, I’m pretty sure nothing structurally is changing about the uniforms. The uniforms being shown are likely just generic uniforms with Washington slapped on them. The striping should all be the same.

Did they release a logo placeholder or did I miss it?

Sorta, kinda, not really. Here's their Twitter profile header as of a couple of minutes ago with the wordmark and a W as the profile pic:

1) Why put the helmet numbers in gold only when the burgundy jerseys have white numbers with a gold outline?

2) Why get rid of the helmet stripes entirely?

3) Why, after getting rid of the helmet striping, did they keep striping on the pants, but adopt a different pattern that is similar to the apparently now-shelved gold pants?

My quick fixes:

1) Put the "W" from the placeholder on the helmet in lieu of the numbers; if you must keep the number, even on one side of the helmet, have it match the burgundy jersey's number color.

2) Have consistent striping on the helmet and pants, preferably by using the old helmet stripes and using those on the garnet pants. At a minimum, match the helmet to the new burgundy pants.

3) Bring back the gold pants.

We've always known it's a matter of money.  The Rams were allowed to change their uniforms on a couple months notice when they returned home to LA, they just chose not to.

But because it's a matter of money (and a lot of money), they don't do it except under extraordinary circumstances.  And if this doesn't qualify, nothing does.

And that's even if those are the new uniforms.  Which may or may not be the case.  We'll see.

This is so cool guys. I am SO stoked for Washington Football team. Finally, a name and identity that absolutely no one can have an opinion about. Because it's literally not based on anything. Finally. We will be able to talk about how the uniforms look without anyone having something good or bad to say about the name or logo. This is perfect!

This is exactly what I thought they would do for this season. Some of it is a bit wonky (the gold numbers and no stripes on the helmet), but considering it’s just a placeholder, it’s fine.

Anyone who actually thought they were going to get a full identity rolled out from the time Fred Smith did his thing to now Probably doesn’t realize just how large of a task changing your company branding is. This stuff normally takes YEARS. l, for one, am perfectly fine with them giving us a placeholder for a year and taking the time to get this right.

We JUST had a case study example of a team not taking their time with their branding package and it’s legitimately the BIGGEST disaster of a branding package in any pro sport.

If we can avoid getting another mess like this, then, :censored:, take ten years if need be.

Considering they didn't even bother photoshopping out what is clearly a soccer net, I feel like some of the weirdness about inconsistent pants, cuff, and socks striping might just be sloppy/rushed photoshopping mistakes.

Also consider the fact that the Nike swoosh is on the front of the jersey and not the sleeve. This was a rush job for an announcement.
