God help us if jersey ads reach the US. A painful amount of clutter distracts from what is overall a nice looking set of sweaters.

Apologies if this has been discussed repeatedly before and I've missed it, but that Amur Khabarovsk logo is the exact same as the Cincinnati Bengals secondary logo, right? Am I crazy? (The answer to No. 2 can still be yes, even if I'm correct. So it's a trick question. :) )

EDIT: Never mind, looked it up myself. And it's not the same. Though it looks like it could be, though.

I don't find them all that bad. Some of them are relativly small like you would see on an AHL or ECHL jersey. Some of the other ones are owned by Russian companies so they of course will have their ads on the jersey. Severstal is a prime example, they are a big steel and mining company in Russia and are based in Cherepovets.

If anyone is truly interested in identity and branding, check out Quberten’s case studies (they did a few of these). They do a great job of showing the full depth and range of the strategy and work required to create a complete team identity and brand package.

I love how in this new HC Severstal secondary logo - which features prominently on the third jerseys - the top of the mascot's head and brow form a foundry crucible, with the molten metal that is being poured out forming the wildcat's nose.

Yeah that's a pretty incredible touch. Quberten's work is gorgeous, love coming across studios I haven't seen before.

The one thing I noticed is that FC Tambov looks really simlar to the Toronto Wolfpack. I think they even tweeted about it at one point.

Thank you very much for sharing this! These case studies are excellent. The one for Traktor especially was pretty amazing (I don’t use that lightly either; there’s a LOT of great detail and process work presented). Quberten’s a studio I’ll definitely be following from here on out.

Some of those logos look like they were pulled straight from the NHL 20 team creator.

They have an obvious style to their work that stands out, and looks so good! I saw that they redid the whole farm league for the KHL because of how out of date the teams were, and it was a 1000% upgrade. The only problem with that approach is the teams all look similar in a way.

Yeah. Unless there’s a big, diverse team working through the different projects, one studio doing many teams within a league will likely result in some homogeneity. That’s where I think you have to lean on some of the signature design language endemic to each club in order to create aesthetic range across the league. I especially love how they updated Dinamo Moskva, for example, keeping the classic nuance and charm, but pushing the execution next level.

I found Quberten a while back from some older KHL redesigns. I love their work. Their attention to detail and the background/pattern work is impeccable. Their work makes me smile, which is honestly one of the best compliment you can give a branding effort. You see something they did and just chuckle to yourself and say "wow, that's cool."
