And having a black and purple glove doesnt help any

And a jersey that half unbuttoned. I can live without the top most button, but comeon that ridiculous. I should be able to clearly read the wordmark with no interruptions by the logo on your undershirt.

Why not?

Fair question. For me there isn’t enough teal in the dark navy jersey to match with the teal of the bill. This, in my opinion, makes the bill look out of place.

That is my feeling as well. It seems unbalanced if that makes sense at all.

I think it only looks unbalanced because the teal outline around the letters doesn't seem as bright as the bill, which could be due to various factors.

They should take that exact look but experiment with a much brighter green. Not straight up highlighter, but something maybe close to the Sounders.

Cardinals now have helmets to match the Sunday caps. Never announced it beforehand. Watching the game and there they are. Look good.

I can’t remember the last time the Cardinals made a uniform decision that I agreed with, but I do like this.

I’ve been wanting them to do this for years, but it does look a bit odd. I’m sure that’ll wear off. The logo treatment seems a bit weird, too.

April 4: Phillies 2, Braves 1 - Talking Chop

I have some tolerance for a Braves player wearing yellow/gold accessories like that.  At least it looks like a color that's in their logo and on the front of their jersey, and not some random color that has no connection.  It's not, like, a "neon" yellow (THAT would look pretty bad).

At least for the shoes, I read this in an mlb.com article from 2019 - "Players may wear shoes displaying, in any proportion: the colors black, white or gray; any colors displayed on the player's uniform (and certain variations of those colors); and any additional colors designated by the player's club."  So I am guessing that yellow/gold matches what's in the Braves logo.

Makes a hell of a lot more sense than other stuff we've seen, like a Mets player wearing volt sleeves, for example.

Yeah.   I was gonna say that while the cleats are a big much, little touches and the band especially feel kinda fitting as it matches the yellow rope the ties the tomahawk.

It's rare the team that can get away with this, but sneaking in a little accent from the logos that aren't in the regular set can be fun.   Blue in Philly, gold in Kansas City, navy in Toronto, yellow in Tampa Bay, and... possibly a little yellow in St. Louis.

If anything, the Angels are doing the opposite.   They're a red, white, and silver team with a predominantly red and navy logo and history with a touch of silver.

I can't focus because the cap and jersey seem to be such jarringly different shades of navy.   That an optical illusion, or just manufacturing differences?

I don't know how I feel about the blue undershirt.

How can the cardinals manage to have a standard helmet and two additional sets of helmets for rarely used caps (Sunday alternate home and road vs red colors) yet other teams can’t have helmets that match a cap they wear most of the time? Is it that hard to have a matching helmet?

Honestly prefer teams to only have one helmet or at least only one home/road helmet.

Then they should only have one hat or one home/road hat.  The helmet is just supposed to be a hard version of the hat - it should never not match the hat they're wearing.

It comes down to ownership. The DeWitts, and team president Bill DeWitt III in particular, have always paid close attention to the finer details of the team's branding.

In 2019, the team made some subtle tweaks to the STL cap logo that, to most of the public, went unnoticed. It came about when the team began developing a statue of the STL logo for its Ballpark Village commercial development. DeWitt noticed "little differences in how (the logo) was articulated.” He kicked off the process that led to what he later called a "fine-tuned" design. (https://www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/news/2019/12/12/buying-cardinals-gear-this-christmas-heres-five.html)

I know nothing about the introduction of the new batting helmet, but it also does not surprise me considering how much DeWitts pay attention to such details.

The new STL only debuted in 2019 as far as tv and promotional graphics and then a promotional jersey. They did a "soft" debut without telling anyone. Then people started noticing and asking about it later in the season. That's when they revealed it would be new logo for 2020 and why they did it, for the large STL in ballpark village.

From DeWitt's telling, the planning for the STL sign preceded any soft launch. And while the soft launch focused only on promotional materials, it was always intended to be permanent.  From the story:

Quote

When the Cardinals undertook their soft launch of the new “STL” design, they knew they had the intention of adopting the logo fully after (the 2019) season. DeWitt said the Cardinals use of the logo (in summer 2019) provided an opportunity to place the new design on items and branding that would have permanency.

For example, the team had the logo painted on a hallway outside the club in Busch Stadium.

“You’re painting the walls. You want it to last," he said. "You don’t want to have to repaint it the next year."

This is a mess for the Cards. Never liked them wearing red on the road and then blue when they face opponents who have red. That's just odd. Keep it as it was: red at home, blue on road and keep the Sunday alt if you want.

I don't mind the matching helmets in this situation because at least they won't be lugging two possible batting helmets on the road.

But you do have a point about helmets not matching the caps. I hate what the A's have done for a while now. It's bothered me for so long.

They have one batting helmet for home and road. But of course the helmet when worn on the road never matches the cap they wear.

It used to match, but not anymore.

Then when it comes to their kelly green alts, their cap and helmet don't match either.

What a mess.

Go A's!
