So appearently there is some sort of MLS wide retro collection merchandise being released today/tomorrow according to a few tweets by Twellmann and Co.

Retro-ish is more like it. The Crew retro gear looks like they had a 96 year old describe what he remembers them looking like but he only saw them one time . . . in 1996.

Men's Columbus Crew SC Mitchell & Ness Black Since '96 Sublimated Mesh V-Neck T-ShirtMen's Seattle Sounders FC Mitchell & Ness White/Purple Since '96 Sublimated Mesh V-Neck T-ShirtMen's Colorado Rapids Mitchell & Ness Green Since '96 Sublimated Mesh V-Neck T-ShirtMen's LA Galaxy Mitchell & Ness Green Since '96 Sublimated Mesh V-Neck T-Shirt

Some of the gear is pretending to look like the originals and others, take a lot of liberties to say the least.

Slightly odd to include teams that weren't  in MLS for decades after the date being thrown back to. I kind of wish the Whitecaps would leave the 86'ers identity in the archives.

The fact that Seattle wore that jersey combo was a surprise to me. I figured they'd just went with that because they were with Nike at the time.

That orca heading a ball has to come back in some real way for Seattle. It's way more fun that Yet Another Space Needle Logo. (YASNL)

The first official action for an MLS team is tonight as Portland heads to Honduras to take on Marathon in CONCACAF Champions League - and the only thing I can say is "always replace your divots". The field is not in good shape.

Does DC Comics not own any sort of rights to the name "Gotham"? Honestly DC media is the one and only place I've ever heard the name used in my 35 years. Sort of odd seeing it trademarked (or whatever) to a real life sports team.

Gotham has been used since the time it was part of the English colonies. Washington Irving even referred to New York by this name.

I worked for the agency that did the Sounders logo. They did the logo years before I got there, but one of the art directors who worked on it told me the logo looks generic because it had to be. At the time they didn't know if they'd carry the Sounders name over, which is why the logo uses YASNL and has a very "PLACE TEXT HERE" placeholder looking box.

So are all 27 teams going retro?

No. It's suppose to tie in to teams that existed in 1996. It was supposed to be released last year but production issues moved it back to this year.

That's interesting -- thanks for sharing.

It's funny that anyone seriously thought a name other than Sounders would be acceptable by the fan base.

I hope we don't repeat that nonsense when an NBA team returns.

Saprissa lost 1-0 to Philadelphia Union but somehow were the big winners because they weren't given a red card for a horror tackle at the end of the game. Of course the Concacaf site makes no mention of it in the game report either.  this crew should never work another game in Champions League, but they'll probably work the final instead.

If you're not getting horrible officiating and dangerous tackles, you're not getting Concacaf. It's a disaster of a tournament, but boy do I love it.

Bad tackles I'm used to seeing happen. If the guy hits you so hard you have an impromptu recreation of the Mark duper hit by the Jets, you might need to reach for a different colored card.

This was slightly less aggressive.

I remember hearing something like during my time with them. It was framed a bit more positively to me, though. It was all about “flexibility”, rather than lack of knowledge on what the name was going to be. I tend to believe your side of it more, though.
