Looks like MLS is ready to get in on the minor league ownership thing like MLB, the NBA and the NHL.

MLS is starting up its own competing D3 league for 2022.

No doubt this will not help USL's D3 league or the already half dead NISA.

I've said this elsewhere, but all it's going to be is an academy league if they only involve MLS teams. Do they really need to make a big deal out of it? I know Columbus talked about having a USL side to take over Historic Crew Stadium after they move into New Crew Stadium next month.  I'd also like to see them add a NWSL team as well.  I think more MLS teams should invest in NWSL as well. I think that would improve the USWNT even more by adding more slots to evaluate players that need competitive games to make that next step in their progression.

NISA keeps shooting themselves in the foot as it is but I think US Soccer should make sure that the MLS2 league sits equal footing with NISA, rather than possibly putting it above USL One or USL Two.

USL Two is an amateur league.  MLS2 should be above them.

And they are putting it on an equal footing with both NISA and USL One, which are third-division leagues.

This seems like the right place for it.  USL One should be fine, and if NISA in particular can’t stand the competition, that’s on them.

I mean IMO putting NISA out of their misery at this point would be a small mercy.

Put them out of their misery, and put them out of our misery.

Just stick Rocco Commiso on an ice flow and save everyone else the headache.

Looks like the Rochester Rhinos are back. Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy purchased a minority stake in the club. The Rhinos have been dormant since 2018 after leaving the USL Championship. They had planned to join USL League One and search for a new stadium. No word if that is still the plan.  They plan on returning in 2022. Meanwhile Flower City Union will begin play in NISA in 2022 in the Rhinos former home.

That turf has had an amazing story.

originally used by Rayo OKC, it was the subject of a dispute between the club’s owners when the foreign owners refused to pay for it and the other owner picked up his turf and went home.  No, seriously.

It was then leased to the Cosmos for they Coney Island baseball stadium.  And then the Cosmos went under.

Next the now-threadbare turf was leased by Oakland, who can’t use it because the USL actually has and enforces standards for its fields.

cursed.  Wow.

This has all the makings of a great documentary.

I'm not sure when the first picture was taken, but it looks like they decided to do the same thing US Soccer does when laying grass down on top of turf fields. They could have just used the field underneath with the soccer lines painted on it. It's not the best option, grass is always the best, but it's better than this. I'm guessing there was plenty of movement of the panels if they called it off.

I'm sure that Laney College turf isn't in terrible condition with the money the school likely brought in thanks to the final season of Last Chance U. Just paint some soccer lines on it and roll. I understand the desire to want to avoid that but if they had known what they know now, I'm sure they'd go the soccer lines on a football field route.

The Roots game was going to be a big part of  #FCSPStreamsUSA as St. Pauli and the Roots have a partnership going so this just made it even more awkward of hyping that a German St. Pauli fan living in Southern California would be going to the game and telling people about the club and fan culture.

As I understand it Laney's field is too narrow for USL. Hence why they were overlaying to begin with.

FC Cincinnati is no longer in last place! Not even second to last! The rare win last night in Chicago pushed them ahead of both Chicago and Toronto (who happens to be their next opponent.)

NOT THE WORST!

Only got to watch the game after the goal had been scored, but it seemed like Chicago had possession for ~80% from that point. Was that just Stamball trying to protect the lead? Both teams badly missed easy chances, but the on target shots were 12-2 in favor of FCC. Chicago's goal in stoppage time getting overturned was a pleasant surprise.

.....and Toronto continues it's downward spiral to the pre-Bradley days.

sigh

I only caught the second half on TV but the first half was an FCC onslaught onto Shuttleworth. The second half was all Chicago but we somehow managed the goal and pretty much parked the bus after that.

A rare two in a row for FC Cincinnati moves them up to 11th past Miami in the East and up past Vancouver and Austin in the West to 21st overall. They have actually looked a lot better in their last 3 matches.
