OKC Energy FC is suspending operations in USL Championship for 2022 due to stadium renovations. They plan to return for 2023.

Meanwhile the new MLS third division league that is scheduled to begin next season is supposedly going to be announced next week during the state of the league address for MLS.  At least 20 teams are expected to play in year one, several joining from USL Championship and USL League One. LA Galaxy II, New York Red Bulls II, Atlanta United 2 and Loudoun United will remain in USL Championship for 2022 before leaving in 2023

Again?  They just renovated that stadium in 2015.

OKC Public Schools notified the team of their intentions to upgrade infrastructure at the stadium that includes removal and upgrading the artificial turf, replacing the athletic track and the addition of LED lighting. With the construction timeline occurring during the soccer season I guess OKC didnt want to find another temporary venue. I know they have been working on a new stadium for the future but thats still a ways down the road.

Pacific FC, coached by former Whitecaps defender Pa-Modou Kah, have won the 2021 Canadian Premier League championship over Forge FC by a score of 1-0. The winning goal was scored in the 59th minute by Alessandro Hojabrpour.

Good for the league. Forge has kinda dominated the league since “go”.
Bad for a Forge fan.

NYCFC finally leaning fully into their Yankees villainy with all these late wins on the road against titleless teams that have been around longer than them. If the off-field nonsense didn't establish a true league villain, maybe all that will!

Thank goodness Portland got hosting rights; I can't think of a more severe contrast between home grounds in MLS than Portland vs NYCFC. Although MLS contorting itself to say "we have to host this final at Red Bull Arena" would have been a fun time.

They played rather poorly in that game too, given the extremely depleted lineup that Philly fielded (the Union had 11 players miss the game because of COVID-19 protocols.)

Yeah, for the parts of the game I could stomach to watch, I thought the Union C-squad put up a valiant fight and they might just pull it out. I would say that it's not great form for NYCFC to have to leave it late against Philly's taxi squad and an iced Revs team, but I've learned that nothing matters week to week in MLS playoffs.

Major League Soccer has announced their new third division pro league as MLS Next Pro. It will launch in 2022 with clubs from Chicago Fire, Columbus Crew, FC Cincinnati, Inter Miami, New England Revolution, NYCFC, Orlando City, Philadelphia Union, Toronto FC, Colorado Rapids, FC Dallas, Houston Dynamo, Sporting Kansas City, Minnesota United, Portland Timbers, Real Salt Lake, San Jose Earthquakes, Seattle Sounders, St Louis City, Vancouver Whitecaps all either launching or moving their USL clubs. Also joining will be one independent club, Rochester New York FC (formerly the dormant Rochester Rhinos).  Atlanta United, DC United, LA Galaxy, and New York Red Bulls will move their USL clubs, while Charlotte FC,  LAFC, and Nashville SC will launch their clubs in 2023. It appears that Austin FC and CF Montreal will not be participating at this time. Future independent clubs could join in as soon as 2023. Teams will play in a mix of MLS venues or other smaller venues.

I think it speaks highly of the ambition of the St. Louis expansion team that it will join this new league a year earlier than its senior team will take the field. In fact, they still haven't said where the St. Louis MLS Next Pro team will play. The new stadium won't be finished until July.

Las Vegas is the front runner for MLS' next expansion club.

Quote

The Nevada city has seen several ownership groups try to bring MLS to Sin City over the years but this seems like the closest they’ve ever been, as the co-owners of Aston Villa are involved in the bid.

Speaking at the 2021 State of the League address, MLS Commissioner Don Garber revealed that Las Vegas is at the front of the queue to be the next expansion franchise in MLS. When asked if that was the case he simply said: “Yes.”

That would take the league to 30 teams, and it would see Vegas jump ahead of Sacramento, Phoenix and San Diego to become the next MLS franchise.

Some of the teams will play at MLS facilities, while others will play in smaller venues elsewhere. Kinda like how Tacoma Defiance play at Cheney Stadium rather than Lumen Field. I imagine they will at least start at World Wide Technology Soccer Park

Glad to see Rochester finally join the MLS fold in some capacity. They were once considered to land an expansion club during MLS 1.0.
