Brian in Boston
Monterey Bay Football Club will be joining the USL Championship in time for the 2022 season. The team's chairman and leader of the local investor group behind the project is Ray Beshoff. Beshoff, who made his money as a car salesman and the owner of automobile dealerships, was lead owner and chairman of former USL Championship side Fresno FC for two seasons... prior to shutting the club down and announcing that he was going to pursue relocating to Monterey in time for the 2021 USL Championship season. Monterey Bay FC's president will be Mike DiGiulio, who has held positions at a number of Beshoff's auto dealerships. The team's sporting director is former two-time MLS Coach-of-the-Year Frank Yallop, whose USL Championship experience includes stints with the aforementioned Arizona United SC / Phoenix Rising FC, Fresno FC, and Las Vegas Lights FC. Monterey Bay FC's plan is to play home matches at Cal State Monterey Bay's Freeman Stadium. The soccer team's ownership group has said it will be undertaking a multi-million dollar, privately-financed renovation of the facility, with construction expected to begin this summer and capacity of the facility to be increased to 6,000.USL Championship Welcomes Monterey Bay Football ClubMonterey Bay FC

Hopefully it will actually amount to something on the pitch. I sure hope so. MLS has a weird history of some expansion teams being great immediately while others being terrible for forever. Cincinnati joined the league with such an amazing fanbase that it'd be great to see that enthusiasm rewarded with actual team success. 1 hour ago, ShutUpLutz! said: and the drunken doodoobags jumping off the tops of SUV's/vans/RV's onto tables because, oh yeah, they are drunken drug abusing doodoobags

They'll just add a couple mid week games. Columbus is reportedly only playing 3 games at Mapfre before moving into New Crew Stadium. It should be interesting to see how those get broken up as well. So most likely the Crew will be away from home for at least the first two week, if not three or four.
