More power to them, honestly. Some may look fine, some may look like :censored:.

You can’t bar a team from using a main color to its fullest capacity.

Nobody is saying there has to be some sort of rule in place banning the Ravens from using a purple helmet. I'm just saying that when it comes to branding, it's generally a good idea to try and stand out from your competitors.

Blue has always been one of the Tampa Bay Lightning's colours, but that doesn't change the fact that switching to a blue & white set made them look like Leaf knock-offs.

Tamp Bay and Toronto share two colors so it’s relatively easy to get them mixed up.

Baltimore and Minnesota share three colors so it’s easier for one team to have a heavy focus on one of those three. As is the same with the other. Minnesota has purple and Baltimore has black. However, that doesn’t mean they absolutely need to shut out the other two colors from the limelight.

For instance, this was truthfully a decent one-off for Baltimore, IMO.

It can be done with pants on whim, so why not go ahead with a different helmet color?

Because it is completely unnecessary. Just because the NFL is going to allow secondary helmets doesn't mean every team HAS to come up with one.

If a team organically comes up with an idea for a uniform that would benefit from an alternate helmet, or has a throwback that requires one, that's fine.

Earlier in this thread you commented that the Bears don't need another helmet, so I'm not sure why you are insisting on Baltimore having one just for the sake of it. There was a ton of backlash from the fans when the gold pants were worn, so I think that is working more against your argument than for it. The Ravens have been around for 25 years, have been one of the league's most successful franchises over that period of time, and have basically kept the same brand. I don't think they have much to gain from another helmet.

You’re absolutely right and I agree. Not every team has to have another helmet.

If the Ravens continue using their purple color rush uniform beyond 2021, that’s the perfect reason to go with a purple helmet. Would Baltimore want to create a fauxback of sorts that requires a purple helmet? Go ahead.

The difference between the Bears and the Ravens is that Chicago doesn’t really emphasize orange like Baltimore does with purple and black interchangeably. Chicago has an orange alternate jersey now and they’ve had one before, but that’s it. No orange pants and no orange socks. They clearly have a priority on navy blue while keeping orange as a secondary.

If the raven create a fauxback uniform with a purple helmet they would look even more like Vikings knock offs.

don't think that was a good alternate look.  There's not enough gold in the rest of the uniform to balance the gold pants - they stuck out like a sore thumb.

Regarding the point about why not go ahead with a different helmet color, it's because helmets are de facto logos.  They're used in promotions all over the place, and are subbed in for the primary logo in many situations.  The pants are relatively irrelevant from a brand perspective.  Maybe even completely irrelevant.

Making everyone wait another 19 days to see a uniform that already leaked? Seems like a waste of time.

Anyway I wonder if they intentionally tweaked this image to throw people off. The numbers look really bright, especially since they are going to be brown with an orange drop shadow.

That’s the current number font, not the more traditional block font that was on the throwback that leaked. Messing with the brightness and color levels, that looks like an orange alternate. Hmm…

Ravens should go with purple flake helmets.

Yes. This is fantastic. It was cool as hell when the Jaguars did it, but it would work perfectly for the Ravens.

It does look like an orange alternate, and is definitely the current font...but that would give them 5 jerseys (including the expected throwback). I think teams are limited to 4 jerseys.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

I'm still seeing an orange swoosh on white jersey. At least that's what it looks like on the left side of the photo.

Someone posted this in the replies:

Looks like a more standard block font too. That 5 is definitely different. Although the 7 looks very similar to the new font, just without the slightly rounded corners. Feel like they used orange lighting to throw people off...

Hopefully they remove the colorflush jersey and replace it with an orange jersey.

All the jerseys that were introduced last year have to stick around five seasons though.

Teams don’t have to wear those alternates, though. Both the Ravens and Packers have Color Rush jerseys that they didn’t wear last season, but wore the season prior.

That's true.

But while teams aren't required to wear their alternates every year, those alts still can't be replaced until after five seasons.

I thought the Packers color rush was just their standard away jersey and they have added in white pants? So technically they still only have 3 uniform sets, as pants aren't regulated like jerseys are.

I know that...I was being a little sarcastic in my response.
