Non logo "Wrongs" in sports.

In the spirit of the popular wrong uniforms threads, this one can be anything in sports, wrong position, wrong franchise name, wrong player name (including a surprising first name), wrong playoff format, logos in the wrong period etc.

  • LeBron James started out as a shooting guard in his rookie year 2003-04, and ever since then he is a forward (Small Forward with the exception of Power Forward in 2017-18 according to Basketball Reference)
  • The Yankees played their first two seasons 1901 and 1902 in Baltimore and then in 1903-1912 were the New York Highlanders.
  • Before changing his name to "Muhammad Ali" and converting to Islam, he was known by his birth name Cassius Clay.
  • I'll even include stuff that only happened because of COVID-19, the Round of 64 all the way to the Elite 8 are played Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday traditionally. This year, the 1st round and 2nd round will be played Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday and then Sweet 16 and Elite 8 are played on Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. all games in Indianapolis. And of course in 2020 it was one of many events canceled along with all Winter and Spring championships.

That every US and Canadian major league has one uniform provider.

That's not exactly "wrong", though - it's just smart business.

And it's been around long enough that modern generations are used to it.   "Wrong", in this context, would be:

  • not that long ago, every NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, and MLS team negotiated its own uniform deal
  • Baseball teams had different cap manufacturers from year to year, and even changed their cap logos based on who made the caps

I'd say these:

WLAF 1991 ORLANDO THUNDER AT NEW YORK KNIGHTS - YouTube

How do I not remember this color vs color game?

1991 Pro Set WLAF 150 World League of American Football #127 Bobby McAllister | eBay1991 Pro Set WLAF 150 #99 Jeff Graham QB - NM-MT - Ziggy's Eastpointe Sportscards | Beckett MarketplaceAmazon.com: 1991 Pro Set WLAF Football #24 Byron Williams/Eric Wilkerson Orlando Thunder/NY NJ Knights Official World League of American Football Trading Card: Collectibles & Fine Art

Look way better than these:

Amazon.com : Vershan Jackson 2000 Bowman "NFL Europe Prospects" Rookie Card #150 : Sports Related Trading Cards : Sports & OutdoorsAmazon.com : Aaron Stecker 2000 Bowman"NFL Europe Prospects" Rookie Card #155 : Sports Related Trading Cards : Sports & Outdoors

Mainly because they used more than one or two templates, but eventually they even use the ugliest NFL uniforms (Titans and Patriots) as the template at the end. It took some of the individual identities away. It's even more egregious in the WNBA, where each team had it's  own look but now they are a color by numbers kit with oversized logos.

Not only that, but teams didn't even design their own number fonts, and just wore whatever that season's manufacturer put them in.

It's hard to believe now that every last detail of a football uniform is custom designed that teams like the Bills and Bengals would open the box one season and the jerseys inside would have very different fonts (champion) than what they wore the year before (and nobody thought anything of it.)
