But I'd still bet on Rocket City Trash Pandas before anything else we've seen of this nature. I don't think I'm going out on a limb when I opine that the Rocket City Trash Pandas brand isn't likely to stick around for anywhere close to the 106 seasons that the Mud Hens name has graced minor league baseball teams in Toledo, Ohio. As for Trash Pandas making it into the 17-year territory of the Albuquerque Isotopes identity's longevity, I'll be impressed when - indeed, if - the Isotopes sobriquet manages to match the 49 seasons that the Dukes name graced minor league ball in New Mexico's most populous city.
sc49erfan15 2,387 Posted October 1, 2019 "Trash Pandas" is literally named after a meme. It's a meme that got an extra boost thanks to Guardians of the Galaxy, but it's still a meme. Memes are almost universally short-term phenomena. That's kind of the point. It'll last 10 years, max. How long would have teams called the LOLcats or Dancing Babies or All Your Base Are Belong To Uses lasted? Not long. This isn't too different. That said, they did a great job with the logos.

Not invalid points, but Trash Pandas has more staying power than the Dancing Baby. Yes, it started as a comment on a Reddit thread and grew into a meme, but it's become a commonly-referenced term for the animal. It can easily make it a decade, especially with quality logos. The question is whether or not it'll have legs in a generation or two.

Well, they had to dump Dukes for fairly obvious reasons. It's why nobody in their right mind would use the name "Conquistadors" for a team these days and why the Padres downplayed the Swingin' Friar for a bit.

I feel like Trash Pandas was an unofficial term for raccoons before the “meme” either way it’s a trash identity and I hope people come to their senses and it gets dumped in less than 10 years, see the Baby Cakes

CaliforniaGlowin 2,194 Posted October 7, 2019 Ugh. Do these contests ever work? Don't the team just do what they want anyway? It's about marketing and sales, not what the fans want. CaliforniaGlowin 2,194 Posted October 9, 2019 You really think Brandiose is gonna pass up doing a cute cartoon narwhal? That's right up their alley. I can picture little stuffed narwhals now.....

Narwhals is too generic (as if) for Brandiose, and they enjoy controversial names like Baby Cakes. Unicorns are trendy right now, so look for rainbows, glitter, and narwhals.
