2021 MLB Season

Bryce Harper has bunted for hits against the shift a few times, but then the shifting team wins!  If he were to bat "normal", even into the shift, while his percentages on grounders would obviously be lower, his extra-base-hits and HR would be mostly unaffected.  By not even trying for a line-drive or HR, he's played right into their hands, even if he's on 1b with a bunt single.  The math probably shows that you're better off just batting normally when they shift.

If this doesn’t give you all the feels, you’re dead inside.

That's bullscat.  Probably want to work some dumb-ass gambling shows in there too.

Already happened with Daily Wager on ESPN2.

Even as a Dodger-hater, I am very moved by this.  Vin Scully created beauty; and it is wonderful that he is able to enjoy this title.

It's the most touching thing since the Giants' history-conscious GM Larry Baer gave rings for the team's three recent championships to Monte Irvin, whose 1954 World Series ring had been stolen.

Let's look at the series of events and, not biased here, just recounting the video at this point

1. Woodford drills Castellanos in the back. Maybe he simply lost control, maybe he did it on purpose because Castellanos didn't respect the game enough on Thursday when he hit a home run. We'll never know.

2. Castellanos picks up the ball and asks him if he wants it back because he didn't seem to have very good control of that particular ball. Objectively funny thing to do, but also probably not enough respecting the game for the Cardinals liking. Castellanos also asks Molina if that was on purpose, ump makes everyone go to their places.

Game Disrespecto Meter - 2 out of 5.

3. Castellanos eventually moves to third base.

4. Molina lets a passed ball by him (probably too distracted by Castellanos previous lack of respect for the game to fully concentrate), Castellanos slides into home, Woodford puts a knee into his back trying to apply the tag, Castellanos stands up, flexes, and yells "LET'S :censored:ING GO!" into Woodford's face, which was crotch level at that point. Not very sporting, not very game-respecting of him, Game Disrespecto Meter is now at 5 out of 5 but a suspendable offense? Hardly. I'd say it's about 1/8 as bad as, just making something up here, throwing your bat into right field after hitting a walk-off single. If someone were to do that I think that'd be dangerous and also very disrespectful to the game and the opponent. Good thing nobody's ever done that in baseball ever.

5. Castellanos begins to walk off the field, Yadier Molina shoves the umpire out of way, grabs Castellanos by the neck, Mike Moustakas gets in his face, and then the benches clear. Castellanos does literally nothing after this. Aside from Woodford and him colliding at home and Molina grabbing his neck, he never touches anybody throughout the entire incident.

and now let's breakdown MLB's logic based on the video:

throwing a high-velocity projectile at a guy - not a serious offense

shoving an umpire - not a serious offense

grabbing a guy by the neck, further escalating the incident - not a serious offense

having the gall to disrespect the game in front of the St Louis Cardinals - two games.

It's a joke.

Update: The man receiving the Vulcan Nerve Pinch in this picture had his two game suspension upheld. The man grabbing an opponent by the neck remains unpunished.

It defies logic, the MLB's "Let the kids play" marketing campaigns, and the video evidence of the incident. The only lesson is: DISRESPECTING THE GAME WHEN THE ST LOUIS CARDINALS ARE INVOLVED IS A SERIOUS CRIME.

As an aside, I'm very happy Lasorda made it long enough to see the Dodgers win last October. He had mentioned for years that he wanted to see them get at least one more ring before he died.

Worst start since 1991 for the Yankees.

I think it's safe to say that I speak for the majority of the people in this thread when I sarcastically say the following. What a crying shame.

This was pretty much my reaction.

There should be a "magic bat" that has a 4'-diameter barrel and is made of titanium or some other super-light-but-hard substance.  A manager could call for the magic bat one time per game, and the player that's using it cannot be intentionally walked or hit (if he's hit, the other pitcher and one other player of the batting-team's choosing will be suspended for a while.

Special "magic bat" music would play throughout the whole at-bat - either through the sound system or a live band.  Infielders would be able to grab special padded vests since the chances of them being murdered by a ball are much higher during the magic-bat at-bat.

Get a gorilla in there somewhere and I'll sign off on this.

To continue Major League Baseball's "Lets F*** With the Reds This Season" theme - they were tied with Arizona last night going into the 8th and umpires decided to start the inning even though it was driving rain, HAILING, and sleeting. I could hear the rain pounding my house, which is about 6 miles from Great American Ballpark as the crow flies. Pitchers couldn't locate anything, Lucas Sims came in to relieve Amir Garrett, hit a guy, and then walked a guy to give the Dbacks the lead. Umpires finally suspended the game when Lucas Sims basically refused to throw any more pitches.

It looked like this

Reds suspended game from last night has now continued after a snow delay. They had no problem delaying the restart of the game today for player health and safety but by all means last night was okay. 🙄

End of an era.

The funny part is at the end of the article when Kasten said that they'll soon announce the new supplier.  So, Dodger Dogs for the time being truly are mystery meat.

I see Dodger fans are uncultured swine for putting mustard on their hot dogs... it should be ketchup only.
