Nike Launches New MLB City Connect Uniform Series

I don't really see "Dodgers" specifically unless you mean just the red front numbers, honestly, and at that point any baseball team using a front number of a different color than the NoB is "just a themed Dodgers jersey".

Unpopular Opinion: I like these.

Even MORE Unpopular Opinion: They are better than their standard H/A sets.

What I don’t like, however, is the use of the NOB and number font from their standard jerseys. Everyone else got new fonts, so...? Something retro-inspired would have been nice. Hell, even a standard block would have worked. Yes, I hear the “iT’s A dOdGeRs JeRsEy” chants already. So what? If it works, it works.

I also hate the idea of them wearing this with their standard white pants. What a damn cop out and cheap solution. Going that route, I fear for what happens when they are on offense. Standard helmets, too? 🤦🏻‍♂️

Which is how many teams, out of curiosity?

(Also to be clear, it reminded me of the Dodgers because it was specifically a dark-coloured cursive script (that I actually did briefly mistake for navy blue in at least one shot due to the lighting) with red numbers.)

Using white home pants with these is ridiculous and definitely the worst mistake of this set. That said, I generally like it. I happen to really like cream and black as a color scheme and the script is nice. Red front numbers looks like the Dodgers and a new font would be nice. Overall, a middling jersey, above Boston and the Cubs but below Miami and the White Sox.

The wordmark feels squished, seems like it'd look a lot better stretched out a bit.

Turquoise outlines around either the wordmark or the number would have been cool.

The S-snake design is pretty cool.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

What's wrong with doing something with that bright turquoise color?

My problem with using teal is they are trying to force it into the current color scheme. Either drop it altogether, or bring back purple and use sand as an accent color.

Use red, black, and turquoise as the primary colors, replace all white with sand, and wear a red road jersey. Problem solved!

Sand is too dark to be a home set, that’s why the Padres use it as their away set

Why doesn't any Arizona team wear a turquoise uniform period? It seems like a great nod to indigenous/Native American culture in the area and would be a unique color to them. And no, the D-Backs alternates don't count (although they should be the go-to set).

As for the City Connect, the color scheme and Serpientes script are both nice, but the fact that they will pair the jersey with white pants is a bit of a letdown.

I’m guessing they’re just going to pair it with their regular black batting helmet shells (with a new decal at least, hopefully), which is also a total cop out move and totally in line with their general impoverished attitude.

I like the jerseys. Simple and clean. The comparison to the Dodgers is fair, it's pretty heavily inspired by it, but it works for me. Unlike some of the other jerseys shown off so far, I wouldn't mind seeing these worn fairly often.

...it's just a Desert-themed Dodgers jersey.

I see where you're coming from but they're more different than they are similar.

I'll give the D-Backs credit for designing an actual script. I'm not sure how popular this will be with fans. The Marlins design was trying to convey a spiritually similar concept as the D-Backs, but the Marlins were way more creative about it.

Only time will tell how popular this will be with Arizonians

I’m just looking at Arizona’s and thinking that there’s so much more that could have been done with it. I’m not at all advocating for something off-the-wall crazy, but I’m just unpleasantly surprised at how basic it is with regards to its inspiration. Something that nods to Hispanic culture ought to be more vibrant and colorful than this.

I will say, the script is really good, and I like the AZ flag patch, but in the grand scheme of things? Both elements only hit the brief of honoring Arizona and Hispanic culture in basic fashion, and that’s what’s bothering me about this. There’s so much you could do with either homage that “there’s a Spanish wordmark and a flag on the sleeve” just seems like the bare minimum, especially when the rest of the set doesn’t convey much else other than “lots of sand”.

In my opinion, City Connect is 1-4 (Miami is still the lone hit). Not an exciting start to the program.

EDIT: 1-5…forgot about the Cubs. They were close to being okay, but they didn’t quite do it for me either.

Agreed. There's some positives but this is very little about Hispanic heritage and Arizona and is more just "a desert jersey."

In that sense I guess it works, the reveal video pretty much nails how it looks best, blending in with sand and rocks and a couple of cactus.

This would also be Luke Skywalker's favorite CC jersey. It  could pass for the jersey of the Tatooine baseball team.
