Nike Launches New MLB City Connect Uniform Series

Recommended Posts

Honestly, the Bridge on the sleeves is a no-brainer, and I don't even despise the fog effect limited to that. Love the idea of using the specific shade of "international orange" on them too. Nice subtle idea.

The G is such an early in the process, nah that's dumb, cutting room floor idea that it's stunning that it got approved. It is Nike, but still. What is G?! Golden? Gate? or Giants? it can't be all three. Everything would have been an improvement on the chest here, Giants, San Francisco, San Fran, the killer SF monogram, Golden Gate, The City by the Bay, The Bay, flippin' Bridgerton, all an upgrade!

What is G?!

I actually like that Giants jersey. I didn't really expect them to get too outlandish, it seems to stay within the confines of being a San Francisco Giants jersey while also being a unique alternate design. It would be way better if it said Giants or San Francisco on the front though.

The real question here is what is the hat gonna be? If it's just white with an orange SF then I would be down with it, but I'm afraid they're gonna put the fog texture on the hat.

I thought about that, and I agree, having a wordmark on the front would have actually make the fog stand out more. If they are going to continue with the effect, I think they should go with solid orange hats.

I saw, I came, I left.

Woof, that Giants jersey is...something else. I don't hate the sleeves, honestly if they just put the wordmark on the front without a gradient, I don't have it.

Ad for the Dodgers, I wouldn't be stunned to see a Hollywood Stars reference. Tons to work with there....which happens to include shorts.

I wonder if they’re going to cheap out on us like the D Backs did and stick with the cream home pants. Kind of a hold my beer move on how terrible the tan and white looked together.

I mean, it stays within team colors, doesn’t include a dumb nickname for the city, and isn’t too outlandish in its design. Is it still a bad jersey? Yes, I think so, but honestly assuming the hat is just orange and white with either the foggy G or SF logo, then this is probably the best design yet. Or to rephrase it, the least offensive design.

The fog design is dumb but it’s better then them putting Fog City or something on the front of the jersey. The golden gate bridge design is cheesy but to be fair the Warriors use is and I don’t really mind it so it’s not the worst use here.

Technically the Warriors use the Bay Bridge (the one that connects Oakland and San Francisco), not the Golden Gate Bridge, but the idea is essentially the same.

Don't like the Giants' design, don't hate it like I did Red Sox. As others have said, using the SF logo or "Giants" would've looked better. Oh well.

You'd think more teams in a sport as reverent of history as baseball would've taken the whole "city pride"-style jersey idea and done what the Marlins did by throwing back to old local ball clubs instead of making cheesy-ass tacky crap.

Then again, it is Nike and the MLB...

Why didn't they use the SF if this is supposed to be a city-centric design?

My very first thought was "how is it a 'city connect' if they use the nickname initial rather than anything city related'?

If anything, it's less of a city connect than their own road uniforms.  I thought one of the points of this was to make something that appeals to true locals - not just go with some cliché.  Whether anyone likes the first batch of uniforms or not, they at least accomplish that.  These?  The Golden Gate bridge and fog are something everyone knows about SF.

Maybe they could have gone with a pride-ish theme?  The tye-dye / deadhead theme that some have posted?  A uniform that makes them look like robots or has a sublimated circuit board for all the tech companies?  Each (even the last one) probably better than a G.

The Dead's core fanbase was always concentrated on the Northeast, not the Bay Area, so that would end up being another connection to New York for the Giants.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

It seems like MLB and Nike gave teams a very loose outline/very little direction. Each team has taken the idea in a different direction. The Marlins went all out and made a good looking uniform.

The Red Sox and Cubs have a really strong local tie in but what they designed leaves a lot to be desired.

The White Sox wanted something that looked tough.

The DBacks mailed it in and hoped for good PR

I'm predicting the Dodgers are going to do something with “graffiti art” for their set.

I hope you're incorrect
