I'd argue the original Players Weekend jerseys seemed to be pretty well-received and popular among the masses. But turns out going from fresh takes on (mostly) team colors to the opposite of that was a bad strategy change.

Yeah, back when they were based off the general aesthetic of Little League jerseys, I think it was fairly well-received and popular with players and fans.

It was the switch to the monochromatic in order to "allow for each custom accessory design to stand out more than ever before", which ended up not really being a thing that came across at all, that soured the concept.

Are we really going to pretend that teams don't control their own fate again? The Giants are choosing to wear their City Connect uniform multiple times, nobody is telling them to do it, it's all on the team. Please remember that it's absolutely possible for teams to make stupid decisions with their uniforms on their own. Aside from the Giants and White Sox, I don't think I've seen any team use their City Connect uniform for a second game.

Just remember this is Major League Baseball and there will be pushback if it tries to get too stupid. It happened with Players Weekend and may very well happen again.

Nike paid a ton of money for this contract and the most surefire way for them to maximize their return is to incorporate as many field-worn uniform concepts as possible. That's precisely what City Connect is all about. They are fashion jerseys but also "official" unlike most of the other non-field worn junk that's sold in various places. I can almost guarantee that Nike's contract with MLB stipulates that alternates such as City Connect must be worn at a minimum number of times per season.

I speculate that teams had some say or input on the designs but were working in collaboration with Nike. So these uniforms were simply bestowed upon them. So they have control over the design and probably which days the uniforms are worn, but if Nike wants it to be eight weekends per year, it's going to be eight weekends per year.

Adding to your list, the Marlins have worn their City Connects for at least eight games now, I believe. I haven't been keeping up on the other teams, but I'm sure the Cubs wore theirs more than once because I saw them when the Marlins played at Wrigley.

MLB cares about one thing in this situation: dollar bills. They will let Nike do almost whatever it wants, within some limits.

I don't know about you guys, but when my brother saw the Dodger's CC uniforms, he said they reminded him of the Smurfs(No Billy Beane as Brainy Smurf jokes, please).

Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends. Sounds like something from a Rocky & Bullwinkle story arc.

Pujols hit a home run in the 9th and my dad called him Violet Beauregarde.

Padres’ colors feel more South Florida (IMO) but maybe it’ll work.

Hope the Rockies set is as good as these hints.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

I’ve wanted the Rockies to introduce forest green for YEARS! So excited to see how they turnout. I’d love a green cap with a purple brim.

So, the padres finally solved their identity crisis (brown-yellow some days and navy-white other days) and now here comes another scheme. (I know, it’s the $ity connect program).

I'm guessing this is the inspiration for the Rockies using of green.

It's probably more accurate to say Coors Field itself is the inspiration for the All-Star logo and the CC socks.  Forest green is featured pretty heavily throughout the stadium, including all the seats except for the row of purple that marks one mile high in elevation.

Green is also a classic Colorado color that has been surprisingly underutilized when representing the state due to the frenzy around the flag. The primary license plate design has prominently featured green since 1958 (with its first use occurring in 1926). I think that could be a very cool inspiration for a city uniform! spacer.png
