According to Icethetics, the Golden Knights aren't sticking with their shiny gold buckets past this year. I suppose that'll put chrome hockey helmets on this list, too.

Seems like too Vegas a thing to hang up after a season. Maybe it was for more technical reasons (glare, perhaps?) than for aesthetics.

Auburn introduced the Tiger Eyes logo in 1998 in collaboration with Russell Athletics. The football team wore the logo on the left hip for the season. That remains the only time the logo has appeared on the football uniforms.

That logo would only be worn for a few times by other athletic teams:

Auburn Men's Basketball had a one-year special white jersey with way-too-much tiger striping and terrible font choices, but with the Tiger Eyes logo (I call this the Dark Ages of Auburn Basketball Design):

Other teams may have worn it as well - I just haven't hit that point in my research yet.

Auburn Basketball had a different uniform each year from 2000 to 2004. The Women's team also dabbled with some one-off terrible designs then, too.

I could spend way too long talking about Auburn uniform oddities, so I'll leave it here for the time being 😂

When the Miami Marlins rebranded in 2012 they had an orange batting helmet that was only used in a pre season exhibition game and never again:

That same game was the only time they wore the orange caps with their black jerseys:

And of course the orange caps was only worn after that four times during a regular season game, twice in 2012 and twice in 2014, with only a few players actually going with orange undershirts and/or socks:

I could take or leave the orange caps with the black jerseys, but oh my god this is an amazing look. Not sure who the player is in the second picture, but that's what a baseball jersey should look like. Absolutely gorgeous.

The player is Josh Johnson.

Fans loved this look and loved this cap, it was said to be their top seller. I don't think it was a conscious effort to not use the orange caps and accessories but ownership and the players leaned so much towards the black caps that the orange stuff became such a rarity. 5 total games throughout seven seasons? That's a crime.

After some "outrage" when they were only worn 3 times in the first season and zero times the second season the team announced in 2014 that it would be worn for every Friday home game but even then they didn't stick to it and by the third Friday home game someone chose to go with the black caps and they never went back to the orange even though it always still existed and was available to them.

In 2018 the Marlins made a change to the size of the cap logo and the orange caps were produced with this new change. So it had been four years since they were last worn but they were still being made for the team. Why bother making it if wearing it wasn't even an option right?

Don Mattingly randomly wore the orange cap while managing an All Star Game in Japan in November of 2018, less than two weeks before the team rebranded and officially ended the orange cap. This one almost felt like a farewell to the cap. And oddly on that night, Marlins players in the game wore the black caps, Mattingly being the only one wearing the orange one.

The Dodgers wore blue jerseys for the 1999 season and never again.

The early FOX era was pretty weird overall for the Dodgers. They also sometimes wore their batting practice jerseys on the road that season:

Then there were the road vests, which were so short-lived, they didn't even make it into an actual game (only merchandise):

There was also the silver-brimmed alternate cap:

And the white batting practice cap:

The lasting legacy of all that experimentation was the return of the city names on the road (which continues today) and, to a lesser extent, the blue buttons on the road jerseys (a neat quirk which they sadly got rid of in 2005).

For the 1982 season, the Washington 32s tucked in the feathers on their logo, but returned to the hanging feathers the next season.

In 1994 the Detroit Tigers started using their current road script, but the jerseys also introduced racing stripes, and they had an orange-brimmed hat with an orange D. They were only worn during the strike-shortened season.

In 1995 the Tigers introduced a navy blue alternate jersey. It lasted one game.

Phillies swirl-p gray roads, worn for only three seasons after the powder blues ran their course (and a couple right before the blues were introduced).  Probably not short-lived enough to count, but just wanted to post a clip of Harry Kalas calling a no hitter.

When the Wizards switched to red/white/blue in 2011, their new uniforms featured a horizontal stripe on the back of the jersey that cut right behind the player's number:

I think the numbers may have been too difficult to read (maybe for the refs), because 2 years later they got rid of the stripes and went with a more "plain" uniform back:

It was the right move, IMO... the stripe on the back was kind of unnecessary and sort of ugly.

According to the mothership, the New York Yankees wore multicoloured pinstripes of blue, red and green for one season in 1915:

Yep it existed but Chris did get one thing wrong on this uniform. There was no green

This certainly isn't a short-lived thing, but I feel it is very forgotten/overlooked.  From the early 1980s-1996 or so, the Blackhawks crest had a stroke around it.

I'm not sure if I'd call it overlooked. People see that version of the logo every year around the holidays when Christmas Vacation is on.

Lets do some CFL ones.

The Montreal football team became the Concordes in 1982.  New uniforms.  Wore blue helmets in 1982 before switching to white helmets.

1990 BC Lions.  New uniforms this season.  Black socks at home and orange socks on road.  Wore the orange socks just in 1990 before the black socks started to be worn on the road in 1991.

In 1991, it was the 25th anniversary of the first Grey Cup win for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.  Traded silver pants in for green pants like the 1966 team.  Silver pants came back in 1992 for the home uniforms.  One season with mono-green at home in '91.

1991 Toronto Argonauts.  New uniforms but white pants still had the striping fit for the old uniforms.  There was new striping on the white pants in 92.

I don't think people younger than a certain age understand how big it was that Rocket Ismail turned down being the overall #1 NFL draft pick to sign with the CFL.  Dallas ended up just fine, but at the time it was a stunning move at the time.
