Minor/Independent/Collegiate League Baseball Logo/Uniform Changes

A press release issued by the New Britain Rock Cats in the wake of the Yard Goats' name unveiling stated:

"A Minor League Baseball player is like that humble Yard Goat. Not a glamorous job but working day in and day out away from the big city lights to assure that the Major League affiliate is kept on track."

Ahhhhhhh... let the painfully-contrived justifications for the ridiculous team name begin!

In before a logo of a goat swinging a railroad tool (giant wrench?) in a yard is unveiled.

I posted this comment earlier today on an article about St. Louis' new soccer team. Wish I had heard about Yard Goats first because it's a more ridiculous example.

"I would much rather be FC and let a nickname develop organically than to have a "name the team" contest and end up with some crazy minor league name like the Akron Rubber Ducks (that's a real baseball team)."

"I did absolutely nothing and it was everything I thought it could be." -Peter Gibbons

This is Brandlose we're talking about here. That's a given.

Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends. Sounds like something from a Rocky & Bullwinkle story arc.

I will say this, I do admire Brandiose's work as their overall performance is pretty decent. However, their "mascot swingin' a bat" logos are basically the same as Adidas using three stripes on everything they do. It's annoying at first, but after awhile, it's expected and you learn to live with them. Personally, I like them, but as I said, the idea does get a little stale after awhile

Story B: Red Wings go undefeated and score 100 goals in every game. They also beat a team comprised of Godzilla, the ghost of Abraham Lincoln, 2 Power Rangers and Betty White. Oh, and they played in the middle of Iraq on a military base. In the sand. With no ice. Santa gave them special sand-skates that allowed them to play in shorts and t-shirts in 115 degree weather. Jesus, Zeus and Buddha watched from the sidelines and ate cotton candy.

I just came back from Daytona Tortugas batting practice this afternoon, where I made a weird discovery. Along with the rest of their uniform set, which consists of green hats, green alts, green scripts and numbers, and green stirrups, their batting helmets are black. They are the THIRD team (that I know of) in Minor League Baseball that uses a predominantly green palette but uses a black helmet. Is there some unwritten/unknown rule in MiLB that forbades green batting helmets from being used?

This is going to drive me crazy all season because this look was would be perfect if it wasn't for this one thing.

The High Desert Mavericks have work this black jersey for literally every single game of the season so far:

From what I've heard, they got these midway through last season, along with solid white pants. So apparently they fell in love with the solid white pants and ended up ditching the home pinstripes as a result. The red alts, meanwhile, are nowhere to be seen.

They more or less alternate between just two caps: the solid black former "alternate" with the cowboy logo known in inner circles as "the dude":

...and its solid red Diamond Era equivalent. The classic "M" cap and the faux blast-from-the-past "HD/sun/mountain" cap are also MIA. The "dude" cap, from what I've seen and been told, was rarely used in the past. What gives?

Strange things happening in the High Desert...or is it all just a mirage?

Because with Brandiose wouldn't be just Teddy Roosevelt themed... It would be a Teddy Moose-Bear with a mustache and spectacles riding a rocking horse while carrying a comically large bat in one hand and a chicken fried steak in the other.

Oh, we were so close...

I went to a Mavs game a few summers ago with Cujo and really wanted one of those red HD caps, but they had almost none left. Same with the classic M cap. They had a ton of "The dude" caps, though. I assume that this is a shift they've been planning for quite some time now.

Not bad....still wish they went with Morgantown as an identifier rather than West Virginia, since the name West Viriginia is used in the Sally League.

The incorporation of blue and gold of WVU with the primary black is nice.

Not to mention, said team is also with the pirates, making two pirates MiLB teams hav eht name West Virginia

That said, I really like these jerseys.
