The sad part is that is absolutely true. Thereās nothing to root for in Camden Yards. Itās a bottomless vortex of misery and has been for quite some time. Itās the main reason why I think the team needs to fast track Adley Rutschman as well as other minor leaguers, including Cal Ripkenās son, Ryan into the majors solely to sell tickets and get fans excited again. I loved seeing that 2016 team and seeing them fall apart over the years has been really frustrating. They shouldāve at least been to another World Series. SOMETHING happened in the offseason that year. I am pretty sure that the team signed a horse's butt to their starting rotation and sold it like it was the best thing ever. I said 'eff it. If they don't care, why should I?' Ā I took a year off of having a favorite team in 2011 so as to not appear to bandwagon the Brewers (in case they turned it around). They did. I declared myself a Brewer fan after the 2011 season and haven't looked back. My ex-wife still can't fathom that I wasn't happy for the 2016 Series win. I was happy for friends of mine who are Cubs' fans, but no joy for me. Ā It sucks that this is happening to you and your favorite team. "Lovable losers" may not seem like an epithet to aspire to, but it gave them a unique aura that set them apart from other sad sack franchises like Seattle.Ā There was something special about the Cubbies. It turns out that the eternal hope and anticipation that someday, somehow, they may finally win one was so much more fun than their actually winning the one. The Rangers are the oldest expansion team without a title (and play in a tuff shed), while the Mariners have never won a pennant. Ā Granted, any of these teams could turn it around with new owners.Ā Ā You become ālovable losersā through bad ownership and later ownership trying to market off of that to avoid investing into the on-field product. They pushed Len Kasper out the door when they hired some Noo Yawk blowhard from the YES Network who insists on making broadcasters wear suits because that's what the Yankees would do.
