The Harlem Globetrotters want to be the NBA’s 31st Franchise (Seriously)

Guys, we're talking about a basketball-based circus that currently tours two teams simultaneously. I went to one of their games shows like four years ago, and the storyline involved the Generals hacking into the scoreboard to even the score with a minute left.

At the absolute most, their parent company (Herschend Family Entertainment, owners of several amusement parks, etc.) would add an NBA franchise to their portfolio, name them the "Globetrotters" a la Disney's Mighty Ducks, and run it like a proper NBA team.

In reality, this is a PR/marketing attention play that is somehow working. Their letter does bring up some interesting points about crediting the Globetrotters for transforming the NBA back in the day, but that's hardly a reason to "give" them a team.

Even still there have been what 10 players in their entire history to play in the NBA, sure one of them was wilt chamberlain but he was going to the NBA regardless of the globetrotters. I fail to see what they’ve contributed to the NBA especially since 2000. Maybe they could have made this claim back in the 80’s and 90’s when they were relevant helping Scooby doo and in the Adam sander film little nicky. But currently they are so out of the realm of public consciousness it really makes no sense to even pitch this idea. The NBA should read this letter put a big red stamp of “DENIED” across it and send it back with no explanation because they don’t deserve one.

Wasn't April Fools two months ago?

They have two female players, so would those two get released if they were to get an NBA team?

Do they start a WNBA team, too? If they got a real team no one on these rosters is making the team anyway.

Can't wait to see their brown Scooby Doo City Edition uniforms!!!!

Or the Harlem Rens, maybe? Granted they were rivals but they actually played the original Boston Celtics.

They played the “Original Celtics” from New York. There is no relation to the Boston Celtics.

Rename the Wizards to the Generals. Otherwise, don't even bother.

Seriously Leonsis has been trying to get rid of the Wizards name since he bought the team. Its why the ball logo is the primary.
