How the hell is that not illegal?

The goalie has to be aware of that. Most refs will make the attacker leave the box if the goalie holds on to the ball. But the minute he puts it on the ground it's free game. I've had a ref give me a card for staying outside the penalty area but interrupting play because the goalie went right up to the line and kicked the ball away while I stuck my leg out to block the ball, and that's with me keeping my body outside of the area.

Not offside because it wasn't a teammate who played the ball to the guy who stole it from the keeper. The keeper dropping the ball was putting it back into open play, same as if he had rolled it underhand, thrown it overhand or kicked it in the direction of a teammate.

Real Madrid loses at home to.......... Moldovan Transnistrian squad Sheriff Tiraspol?

FYP.  They couldn't even beat a team from an unrecognized breakaway republic.

https://www.espn.com/soccer/barcelona-espbarcelona/story/4486577/barcelona-financial-crisis-laid-bare-as-laliga-cut-300m-from-spending-cap

Barcelona has had their spending limits cut by La Liga again! There are currently 6 other La Liga teams that have higher salary caps than Barcelona.

"In practice, Barca's wage bill will remain much higher than €97m this season, despite their best efforts to reduce it in the summer by letting Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann leave.

Laporta revealed recently that salaries and amortisation payments still account for around 80% of the predicted revenue of €765m for the season.

The league's economic controls demand that figure is around 70%, although Barca's is even lower this season as they must make amends for recent losses. Gross debt, meanwhile, stands at around €1.4 billion."

Josh Cavallo of Adelaide United in the A League has announced that he is gay, becoming the only current openly gay player in the world.

IFAB says keep 5 subs per game rule in place. England's Premier League is the only league I'm aware of not currently following this rule,  as they went back to three subs this season.

Interesting day in Europe, Juventus lost at home, Man City lost a League cup tie for the first time in 5 years, Bayern went down to their heaviest defeat since 1978(!), and Ronald Koeman has been sacked by Barcelona.

Liked this. When we think the game is getting increasily more physical, faster, and longer, with more stops, (games are commonly going until nearly 100', much more than five years ago), the increased number of allowed subs will give more time of rest for starters and more time of play for the subs.

As long as they have to occur during three stoppages per team as had been done before, it's not going to slow anything down either. Look at how scoring jumped in the Champions League this year, with a full preseason and the five subs.  If FIFA gets it's way with World Cups every two year's this would be a necessity to avoid player burnout.

Changing five players can make quite a difference on association football tactics. I wonder if this increasing number of substitutions wouldn't be a push for tactic half-time substitutions instead of make even more stoppages to the match.

You can still do that half time change with the current rules and not have it count against your three in game moves, we saw it used a lot in the Europa League when teams needed to switch from a defensive to offensive shape.

As much as MLS embraced Concacaf levels of stupid, in terms of VAR and referee decisions, at least no one's pulled a gun at a soccer field this year.  Third Division in Argentina.

https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/59118020

Nuno Espirito Santos is out at Spurs after getting drubbed 3-0 by Manchester United, jumping to the front of the pack to bring in Antonio Conte. And now some Manchester United fans are mad that he may take the job instead of getting the Manchester position. That Espirito Santo is sacked and Daniel Farke still has a job says a something. Though I don't think anyone at Norwich really cared to put any effort into this year judging by how little we here about a possible manager change.

Tim Howard made a cynically decent point on NBC over the weekend that if it's inevitable you're going to end up back in the Championship, why not keep the manager who's proven himself to be a top manager at that level? I guess it's better to be a yo-yo club than a full Sunderland/Portsmouth fall from grace?

I feel sorry for Nuno, one of my favorite managers who never stood a chance at Tottenham. He was so clearly going to be undermined from day one that I'm not quite sure why he even took the job, but I guess $$$.

Mixed bag for U.S. coaches in Europe this weekend:

https://www.dw.com/en/rb-leipzig-cut-jesse-marsch-loose-but-the-crisis-is-of-their-own-making/a-60027648

Jesse Marsch sacked at RB Leipzig.

Chris Armas expected to join Manchester United's coaching staff.

I wonder if Jesse Marsch might move to LAFC . It makes a lot more sense than Landon Donovan coming in.

Colombia holding up their end of dubious soccer matches. Llaneros rival lost their game which would send them up automatically. Instead, Llaneros (alledgedly) let Magdalenas win and keep Fortaleza from going up.

Tottenham Hotspurs down to 10 senior players ahead of EPL match this weekend. Their Europa Conference game has been called off tonight. They still need to play it by the end of the year, in addition to fitting in EPL matches and a League Cup tie.

Sam Kerr gets a yellow card for taking out a pitch invader who was allowed to amble around the field taking random selfies with at least two other players.  This was in a UEFA Champions League match! Hopefully they rescind the card, because as someone who remembers Monica Seles getting attacked by a fan in Germany, the ability of that guy to just run around for that ling is infuriating.
