Tampa Bay Rays get more specific on ballpark cost

  • There were other questions, including what would the two-city team be called? Auld said that was a question for another day, but one that would indicate that the tougher issues had been solved. He did float some more goodies: 200 events a year in a 27,000-seat outdoor park with no roof. The full-time residency of the Tampa Bay Rowdies, owned by the Rays. And, in a line that drew applause, maybe a professional women’s soccer team. And maybe two different uniform schemes.
  • As for a new name, Auld said the team would work with top-notch branding firms to solve that riddle. But he said he’d done a little research of his own. In a reference to DiMaio’s complaint that dragonflies would be among the pests at spring outdoor games in Tampa, Auld replied that the insects are one of the few species that migrate from Canada to Florida. The migration occurs in late summer.

The Brewers had to make their baseball patch blue, but that’s because the details aren’t easily seen from a distance.  No lettering, no other elements.

The seams on the baseball are made from wheat 🌾. That’s another element. Haha.

I disagree, trying to force turquoise into their color scheme to please the people that want to debut uniforms just makes them look like they are putting 10 pounds of s*** in a 5 pound bag. As they say when you try pleasing everyone you end up pleasing no one.

Brick red, black, and sand is a boring scheme. They don’t need to lose the turquoise; rather, they need more of it, if you ask me!

I agree the red black and sand color scheme is boring, but adding turquoise to it looks so out of place. They should just do a turquoise and purple cream scheme to sort of harken back to the to the original uniforms but still be it’s own look.

If you're asking whether they should unveil their new uniforms, they did when they announced their new name (think their old uniforms with all lettering taken off and replaced with the new lettering). As for when they will go on sale, it would be in their best interest to get them in stores in the next two weeks.

They might not be able to sell it until the issues with the Roller Derby team are resolved?

I generally think this is the best take on the D-Back situation HOWEVER they are now the only team that wears black, red and sand, They could double down and just own that look forever

The thing is, black, red and sand doesn’t necessarily scream “Southwest” to me. But black, red, sand and turquoise? Now we’re talking.

None of the teams look bad right now, but I think the Mariners, Rockies and Angels are all due for a refresh of some kind.

Rockies, yes. Angels, maybe, but they’re really just a few tweaks away from perfection. As for the Mariners, I have no idea why so many want them to change. They look fantastic, and any changes are just going to gimmick up that set or bring back inferior elements (M trident). If anything, they need to revert back from the 2014 changes to what they had before.

I generally agree that the Mariners set is close to a modern classic; get the outlines right, never use the roman font for numbers and names, etc. But I think a lot of the calls for change are linked to wearing that through a historically bad drought.

M's specifically need to put more of an emphasis on teal. Wearing their alt hat as the primary like they did in the 90s would be fantastic

Along with the need for an increased emphasis on teal, I do think the Mariners’ wordmarks/logos have gotten a bit stale. Maybe flipping the color balance to emphasize teal would be enough to revive them, but I wouldn’t mind an update, maybe something that harkens back to the ‘M trident’ era.

I don’t mean to self-plug, but I would love to see something like this (paired with a navy hat with a teal brim, of course):

I don't know why but I don't find the Seattle teal to work well as the primary color in lettering. (Which is weird since one of my hobbyhorses is that the Sounders screwed up by not being a teal team.) The current color balance works with the teal brim hat, and the teal top (to my surprise) as the primary alt. Any tops in any shade of power/royal/navy blue can be binned.

Honestly a total fresh start might be best for them... but, embracing the lime green of Seahawks/Sounders wouldn't fit this team. But the pee-stained fauxback alternate look is maybe even worse? I just don't trust this team to get a new look correct at all.

My whole goal was to eliminate an all-navy hat. I hate how grey sets have to get "darker," such as the Cardinals, A's, Braves, and Reds' road caps. The Cardinals markedly improved their look by going back to primarily red hats on the road, while the A's and Reds' batting helmets are proof that the all-green and black-billed caps don't need to exist.

Giving justification for the teal-billed hat to be an all-around hat was my desire. That and the acceptance that the Marlins won't do the obvious thing and modernize their '93-'02 designs. One team has to be teal-heavy, yes?

How am I just now realizing that the wordmark from Seattle's ' 1977-80 primary logo was never actually used on a Mariners uniform? This is a perfect solution.

Guardians baseball merchandise sale postponed months after lawsuit with roller derby team

Cleveland baseball fans will have to wait a little longer to get their hold on Guardians merchandise. Team merchandise was set to go on sale Monday, but the team postponed the event, according to Cleveland.com.

The team declined comment to Cleveland.com. In October, a Cleveland roller derby team named the "Guardians" sued the Cleveland baseball team over its new name. The Cleveland baseball team has not announced when Guardians merchandise will go on sale.

Cleveland's baseball team — previously known as the Indians — announced in July it would change its name to the Guardians for the 2022 MLB season. It's the first time the team has changed its name in over 100 years.

The roller derby team was allegedly willing to sell the name to the baseball team. The baseball team reportedly offered "just four figures" for the name in June, according to the roller derby team's attorney. The roller derby team turned it down.

The baseball team is confident the name change will work out. In November, the team removed the massive "Indians" sign above the scoreboard in left field. Team president Chris Antonetti appeared at the GM meetings in November wearing a polo featuring the team's new "C" logo.

My idea was similar to that, but retains more of the post-’92 character of the set. I don’t think my perspective anchor holds up at all, but you get the idea.

A slight trident tribute, but otherwise more akin to the 1993-2014 design.

Cool but sleeve logo is a little close to the Kraken.

Yeah, the initial road jersey had the same font, but it’s never been used for the home jersey. I do feel it is a nice way to update the M’s with more modern-looking wordmarks while also paying homage to the past.
