MLS Kits 2021

Regarding the Crew: they could've done better.

I thing they wanted to shead the "Columbus Crew SC" badge because of all the negativity with it (more owner than anything), but they could've called themselves "Columbus Crew" or "Crew SC".

As many people have pointed out, "Save the Crew" will forever be a part of Columbus soccer and if they don't want to embrace it, fine. But don't get mad/upset when fans are angry because you changed the name, again.

The brand reeks of stupid people thinking they're smart.

Can you imagine if Hank and Hal Steinbrenner decided the interlocking NY didn't celebrate the Yankees brand enough?

There's a certain grace to leaving well enough alone. Especially the season after winning a title.

Sometimes Most of the time the best move is not making a move. What they should've done is nothing.

Clearly trying to rebrand because the roundel was a Precourt creation, but the logo wasn't anybody's big gripe with Precourt. I always clocked that the Precourt badge was rather popular with fans, EXCEPT for the SC they insisted on adding to the name. So the new ownership group throws out everything except they keep the SC, which is the one part of the old brand that nobody liked. It's like they didn't talk to any of the fans. It's like they made a bad choice at every possible decision. It's such a masterclass in how to not to rebrand, I can't even believe it's real.

The new Columbus C could pretty easily be a Cleveland C if it needed to be, right?

The saddest part is seeing the Columbus fans complaining about the new logo who haven't even realized yet that the name is changing.

That's exactly why we're complaining. Second to how butt ugly it is.

The name change is the dumbest part of all of this, but also:

Is it to dip in Austin's "savory queso"?

I mean if you want it to look like their flag and have a "C", why don't you rotate the flag?

I actually hate this more than what they made. I dunno if if it’s just the shape of the new badge turned or what. But this ain’t for me lol

Even if it's not on their shirt, I have a funny feeling the new crest will be EVERYWHERE in their new stadium when it opens in July. That's about the only reason I can figure out for the timing of the announcement after the season has started.

that seems for certain, and maybe also partially explains the thought process that the yellow kits weren’t coming to the new stadium either.

but also, as soon as the leaks and presumed imminent announcement started up, I gotta say my mind went to the LA Galaxy changing everything mid season in the Beckham era. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Judging from the reaction, I hope they budgeted for vandalism (and a logo retcon in a year or two).

Oh go :censored: yourselves.

Your city is named after a dude who is associated in parts of the world with colonial genocide.  Maybe this is not the brand you want to lead with.

Such a bizarre rebrand from concept to reveal. The new font and "C" monogram is just wonky and full of small visual errors that add up to create an awkward result that really doesn't work for me. Simply put, none of it is an upgrade.

And even moreso, why release it on a random Monday night in the midst of a season? That gives you zero opportunity to capitalize on hype and roll it out in a cohesive way. It's like they procrastinated on it, realized that it may be unpopular with fans, and are turning it in late for partial credit now.

I honestly thought the last logo was kinda bad, too. It felt really generic and kinda boring. That being said, it’s FAR better than this trash.

IMO, MLS has never been a great looking league. There are a few GREAT logos here and there, but for the most part, I still feel that most teams either look kind of amateur or completely generic and boring. And it’s somehow gotten worse over the course of the last decade.

Every MLS team isn't confident with American-style nicknames placed in their team names. They FEEL like their identity is  amateurish compared to Europe's most popular teams. So they ape what is read on the club's names, not understanding why their own identities define them as clubs and its own fans.

Honestly, if they need to rebrand the name and identity to a more Euro approach, they need to understand that it's more than just FCs, SCs, and Uniteds. I'll be fine if there's Athletics, Rovers, Wanderers, Rangers, Towns, etc. But it's getting more redundant as years go by. I wish these owners realise that copying the Premier League does not make a good branding. A committee is needed to prevent this from happening.
