It'd make more sense if it was for a team using a crown over top of the letter. Is that shape found somewhere in Boston? I get a Royals vibe more than a revolutionary one.

I like it. It kinda reminds me of an old timey wax seal. Gives it a bit of a Paul Revere/messenger boy on horseback vibe, which works.

As a Revolution fan of like a month ago, I like it. The flag logo sucks and this new thing looks a lot less like USA Soccer.

Here's a cached link to a page about the rebrand from the designer's(?) website. It was up and then taken down.

These are guesses,  but the outer shape feels directly inspired by classic bunting banners

That's what the webpage says,

Badge shape derived from draped bunting, forming a clover-like outline.

Phew, I thought I was going to look stupid for a minute there. Thanks for the link!

From the images found via that cached link to designer Charmie Shah's website, I'd have rather seen this containment shape used:

Within the center of the fort-shaped device, an intertwined NER lettermark - for example, something akin to this one designed by Brian Gundell -  could complete the crest:

If I'm a member of the New England Revolution executive team and said team is currently mulling a rebrand, I'm on the phone with Matthew Wolff or Christopher Payne - a pair of creatives who have carved out a niche for themselves by designing well-regarded identities for soccer clubs - and securing one or the other's services. Granted, they're both currently in-demand graphic designers within their aforementioned niche, but all the more reason to get yourself in the queue to collaborate with them.

I really love this all the way around. I can’t believe it’s taken them this flippin’ long to get to this point. I’m sure they were waiting for their new stadium to open before they introduced to rebrand, but let’s be honest, that’ll never happen.

My one hope with this re-brand is that once the new look is established, they make the R surrounded by the bunting their primary logo, and ditch the roundel lockup.

Other pro: I get a real Rangers/Flamengo monogram vibe which I like.

Con: Not a fan of the two-tone blues on the kit.

Dear god, I hope that leak is real. The logo itself is fine, nothing too special, but it's such a massive, substantial, enormous upgrade over the crayola flag that it doesn't matter.

Please let it be real. Lmao.

Cowboys - Lakers - LAFC - USMNT - LA Rams - LA Kings - NUFC

Other observation: I’m happy the design is explained in simple terms:

”Our new New England Revolution crest is a bold statement of the team's and region's spirit. The version shown is the primary mark and is used in all major applications as the representation.”

“Badge shape derived from draped bunting, forming a clover-like outline.“

Luckily, they didn’t go with the usual MLS marketing jargon like how the outer ring represents community and the shape represents the bravery of New Englanders and the colors represent the desire to win championships that live inside all of us.

The leaked Revolution identity? Meh. It does nothing for me.

Believe me, I'm no fan of the Crayola Old Glory, but I'm not of the mind that replacing a subpar design with something that's "fine" and "nothing too special" is enough of an upgrade to warrant signing-off on this rumored rebrand.

Frankly, if the team has managed to survive into its 26th season with the current abomination, I'd rather that the Krafts and their executive team hire talent capable of creating a truly outstanding visual identity package and provide them with the time and resources necessary to do just that.

This? This is a middling group of marks that only seems like a significant improvement because, identity-wise, the Revolution have been down so long that just about anything is going to look like up. Rather than settle, the Revs should be looking to excel.

I had hoped any potential crest would utilize the Pine Tree which was a major symbol for New England in the colonial era.  I don't hate it but there's a lot about it that annoys me.  The slash through the R seems forced and takes away from the R itself. Using a design that's more about "Bunting" rather than any sort of seal or stamp design from the era is an odd choice to me.  I love the flag logo as it's very unique among MLS badges now even if it is painfully 90s but can acknowledge that an update is necessary. But i feel this badge needs a LOT more refinement before being trotted out.  As someone mentioned earlier they shouldn't settle for "fine" but should excel to be one of the strongest badges in the league.

If there's been any example of something staying around for long enough that people just eventually accept it, it's this logo.

This logo stinks! I understand why there is pushback from some Revs fans, but there shouldn't really be because all it is is a poorly drawn American flag.

As a Revs fan of about a month or so, I welcome this change. This new logo isn't perfect and there would be some changes I would make (I really like Brian's idea of using the fort shape), but it's infinitely better than what the logo is now.

Paying for two identities to get one? You really think wasting the owner’s money is a solid exec move? 🤔

Well, clearly the Krafts think she is indeed “talent capable of creating a truly outstanding visual identity,” and I agree. The proof is right there. Just because the Krafts didn’t hire either of the dudes you like doesn’t mean they “settled.”

I still don't have a website, but I have a dribbble now! http://dribbble.com/andyharry
