dont care
I’m not upset about the lockout. There hasn’t been one in over 30 years. Every once in awhile balance needs to be restored whether that’s taking power from owners or the players, everyone just needs to step back and actually negotiate a deal that benefits everyone rather than kicking it down the road. That’s why I’m looking forward to the next NBA CBA expiring. Right now the players in that league have far too much power and need some taken away from them. BrySmalls
The lockout was a long time coming for a whole multitude of reasons. I am optimistic that we get a half-season once all is said and done for 2022. However, I assume the season will be canceled.
DG_ThenNowForever
The Mariners seemed poised to break through, so of course there's a lockout. I don't see who loses with expanding playoffs though. That absolutely should happen. 1 hour ago, ShutUpLutz! said: and the drunken doodoobags jumping off the tops of SUV's/vans/RV's onto tables because, oh yeah, they are drunken drug abusing doodoobags

This doesn’t strike me as 2004 NHL bad, but not as good as 2011 NBA. There’s also enough time before April to maybe come to terms, big maybe. BBTV
There will be a full season. Worst case is that this gets resolved on the brink of spring training, then there’s a flurry of FA signings and trades. Neither side is that dumb, and while it’s easy to LOL at that, I think it’s the truth. They know what’s at stake. Couldn't disagree more. The owners are already billionaires. I'll never feel sorry for them if they don't have enough power.

It took the league years to recover from ‘94 and that was with steroids and Ripken and before the computer simulation/three true outcomes/spin rate/4 hour yawnfest era. Dozens of emergency Covid signings, maybe three nice comeback stories and a whole lot of awful basketball. FiddySicks
Baseball has been in a pretty rapid decline over the last decade, and it’s gone from something I totally obsessed over, to something that barely even registers with me any longer. It’s been coming for awhile, but watching the greatest player in the history of the game get snubbed from their fancy museum, while a dude who has many of the same links and isn’t a quarter of the player Bonds was gets in first ballot is pretty much my full separation point. And the thing is, the hall has NEVER had any legitimacy. It’s a two bit museum that’s basically always operated with selective history. It’s an insult to the very nature of what it is. The fact that it’s taken with such a level of seriousness amongst fans, players, media, etc honestly takes a lot of the interest I have in the league as a whole and basically kills it. It’s truly amazing that a bunch of geriatric geezers and dudes who never even played baseball could ruin a child’s game as much as they have. It’s the PERFECT salute to this country. Yeah, the punishment of steroid-era players (especially ones who weren’t “nice to the media”) is a joke and reaffirms how much the old/“sentimental” guard needs to go away. Sports, for the most part, have taken a back seat for me. I’m only really invested in it’s overlap with true crime, graphic designs, or when one of my teams is doing well. I’ve just come to realize it’s not that important except as a vehicle for dramatic storytelling or entertainment. Sentimentality and faux-sentimentality just stink as sports philosophies. Red Comet
Also, it’s the Hall of Fame for baseball, not being a good person. Otherwise Ty Cobb would’ve never sniffed the Hall of Fame and that’s before we get to his “extreme-even-for-his-time” views about race.
Cujo
Can we also point out that Curt Schilling is blackballed from the hall of fame for OFF THE FIELD, POST-RETIREMENT COMMENTS? Comments myself and many people don't agree with. But as a player, never cheated the game and 100% deserves to be in. Cooperstown is a joke. Stuff like that is why Naismith blackballed Tim Hardaway for so many years. Engendering those sentiments and doing serious financial damage to the state of Rhode Island are enough to blackball him. Like, if a hall of famer got busted for being a pedophile or a murderer, I’d be all for removing them and giving them the “Chris Benoit treatment.” MLB: Project 32 (Complete), MLB: The Defunct Saga (Complete)

Just my opinion, but Curt Schilling isn't in the HOF because his career doesn't warrant induction. Schilling is a great candidate for the Hall of the Really Good. FiddySicks
If you ever want to quickly explain to someone just how much of sham the hall is, remind them that while this selective group of dudes are left out, Bud Selig, legit the dude who enabled ALL OF THIS, is in the hall. What a :censored:ing joke of an organization. On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.)
