tBBP
New for 2022, Tennessee is rolling out new license plates. Here's the current (soon-to-be former) plate: And as of 2022, it will be going blue. Here were the finalists: That one on the top left won out: On the whole, nothing to write home about. Kinda predictable, given the state flag imagery, but functional enough, I guess. Sidebar, but I have no idea why do many states keep advertising vacation URLs on their license plates, but whatevs. Probably would've been better off putting "THE VOLUNTEER STATE" down there where TNVACATION.COM is rather than jammed up there into the upper left hand corner like the afterthought it looks like. *Disclaimer: I am not an authoritative expert on stuff...I just do a lot of reading and research and keep in close connect with a bunch of people who are authoritative experts on stuff. || dribbble || Behance ||
DTConcepts
I'm so tired of seeing "IN GOD WE TRUST" everywhere. I miss the separation of church and state. Aside from that, the plate is fine. It's better than the previous one, but it's nothing special. "You ain't gonna learn what you don't wanna know..."

You and me both... It's like when Mississippi changed their flag from the one with the Confederate flag in the canton, they made it a requirement that the new flag said "In God We Trust." These are the same type of people that screech about "virtue signaling"... Plate will work well for Titans fans who get those decorative frames. shark
What's with the bar code or maybe tiny numbers on the right side of the outline of the new plate?

Every US license plate is the same shape and size now. There may be some regulation which doesn't allow that design.
BadSeed84
The old one had a cooler font for Tennessee.

I believe it's for laser scanners. Some states use this to obtain plate information at high speeds.

I remember the PA DMV bragging that they were the first state to put a URL on their license plates (first it was literally the DMV website just in case anyone was following a car and wondering how to get information on PA driver license renewals, LOL, then the tourisim site.) I can't believe that in 2021, anyone is wondering "how do I find information about state X?" and needs to see it on a license plate, that is 90% of the time either in said state, or in a bordering state. It's tacky, and it sucks that so many states are doing it. I hate North American plates (not just North American, but any non-wide plate, though I've found North American plates often the hardest to discern as opposed to Australian states, which use a similar style) in general because it's nearly impossible to even tell what state a plate is since the designations are usually at the top or bottom, and they're covered by dealer advertisement plates or other crap that people either don't bother to remove, or intentionally put on there. If you have to report a hit and run and it's an out of state plate, depending on the design, it can be nearly impossible to accurately report it "uh... plate XYZ-1234, state... uh... white with a gradient?" "The views expressed here are mine and do not reflect the official opinion of my employer or the organization through which the Internet was accessed."
