Nike with the opportunity to control all four leagues merciless evil laugh GIF

They've already ruined the NBA, and are in the process of ruining the NFL & MLB with the alternate helmets and city connect stuff. Why wouldn't they take a shot at ruining the NHL now that most of the teams look better than they ever have.

Nike already trashed the NHL before... started Adidas and Reebok down the Swift jersey trend and boring templates like the olympics....  might as well ruin them completely.

Hate to break it to nhl fans but it's a tier 1.5-2 league in terms of tv and merchandising. The fan bases are extremely loyal but the overall popularity of the sport does not qualify as top tier which is why they have such a hard time getting a national tv deal and also why nike likely won't bother with making anything but a lowball effort.  This deal has fanatics written all over it. There may be a smaller outsider that decides to take a shot at the nhl but we will see.

Also it's pretty evident adidas has difficulty profiting off merch deals in north america.

I would love and I wish it's gonna be CCM but let's being realistic if only nike join to bid they will take that deal.

BTW what happens with adidas? They gave up NBA contract without any fight now doing same thing with NHL. Their deal with MLS is running through 2024 and looking what they doing, it probably won't be prolongated so nike might control whole Big5 very soon.

CCM would keep the NHL looking the same for the next decade. If that's what you want, they're your answer. Their CHL/AHL uniforms aren't bad, but also aren't anything spectacular.

As much as people around here hate Nike at least they would bring some creativity to the table. Remember clients drive the bus. If the NHL is looking at the NBA/MLB and wants some "city" uniform money, that's what Nike will give them. If they want something like Reverse retro Nike can deliver that too. The jersey manufacturer has no power to force a league or team to do anything.

Using Nike's Olympic/International uniforms as a knock against them isn't really fair either. Those don't sell like pro uniforms and only last a short time. They aren't designed to be overly unique and last years or even decades. There's no need to worry about every team being forced into a template. Especially after the debacle we saw with the Edge templates.

Yea clients are the league and owners have a say but you would be a fool to think Nike or any other manufacturer doesn’t have influence in these decisions. It’s basically their job to pitch ideas to these organizations, as many as they can get away with to with the ultimate pitch being “us making more uniforms makes you more money” and the NHL has already sold their souls to advertisers if you don’t think they will do the same to Nike or anyone else for a profit you are simply naive.
