Seadragon76
I know a lot of people aren't into following high school football now, but some people here (like myself) do. So, that's why this thread is being made with football season approaching in many states. As for my neck of the woods, things aren't changing much in Washington or Iowa... but Oregon has gone through a massive restructuring of their football system. -6A, their highest level, will still have 32 schools in the playoffs. But, instead of one big 32 team field, it'll now be two 16 team fields. The main reason is that the lower seeded teams weren't able to compete against some of the bigger boys out there and there hasn't been a lot of parity at this level. So, to try and remedy this problem, the OSAA has created two 16 team brackets: the 6 conference champions and the 10 highest ranked teams will compete for the state championship while the remaining 16 teams will compete for the Columbia Cup. -For the first time since the early 2000's, Rainier and Clatskanie are in different classes. Rainier is still a 3A school and will be in Special District 1 with Banks, Corbett, North Marion (a 4A school), Valley Catholic, Warrenton and Yamhill-Carlton. Four of the schools are also with Rainier in the Coastal Range League for other sports. -Clatskanie is now a 2A school and with that, it means a different style of football in introduced here: nine man football. 2A schools play this variation thanks in large part to the spring season in 2021, where many schools at this level couldn't play eleven man football thanks to COVID-19 and other issues. So, these schools have nine man football. In their district, Special District 1, are Gaston, Knappa, Nestucca, Sheridan (a 3A school), and Vernonia (Another school, Neah-Kah-Nie, is also in this district, but is not playing a full eight game schedule and they're also a 3A school). Similar to Rainier, there's four fellow conference mates in this district. -When you get down to 1A, there's two different styles of football being played here: Eight man and Six man. The first level is eight man football and it's for the bigger (in terms of the class, mind you) schools while the really small schools play six man football, which will have their first ever state championship this season.
Sykotyk
Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Georgia started this week. Georgia's Corky Kell Classic started on Wednesday with a doubleheader at Johns Creek. Kell (unrelated to the event's name) beat Cherokee Bluff, 38-23. And the host Johns Creek Gladiators got bludgeoned by Parkview, 52-7. Last night, the doubleheader was at West Forsyth. North Atlanta came back from 20-6 down to win on a last minute touchdown pass, 31-27 over North Forsyth. West Forsyth then won the nightcap, 21-7 over Archer. Friday has a tripleheader in Rome. Followed by a quadrupleheader at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Saturday.
Discrim
Watching a bit of this American Heritage-Los Alamitos game...#4's almost TD just now where he was caught from behind about 2 yards shy of a score after busting through the defense literally had me humming the Retro Bowl music 1 Quote A strong mind gets high off success, a weak mind gets high off bull
Sykotyk
Thursday - North East (PA) v. Girard (PA) Friday - West Allegheny (PA) v. South Fayette (PA) Saturday - CSP (NY) v. Wilson (NY) Saturday - Salamanca (NY) v. Randolph (NY) North East are the Grapepickers. They're the furthest Northeast town in PA's northwestern wedge that includes Erie. The team in red are the Yellowjackets. West Allegheny Indians v. South Fayette Lions Clymer/Sherman/Panama is a co-op between the three schools. Also known as CSP and are nicknamed the Wolfpack. They're 2018 and 2019 back-to-back state champs in New York. This is the first year with white helmets. Previously the helmets were black with the white CSP logo. Apparently the kids like the white lids better. Wilson is the Lakemen, and from north of Buffalo right along Lake Ontario. Salamanca is part of the Seneca Nation of Indians and the only city in the nation actually IN a reservation. Due to various treaties, the land of the city is owned by the nation and leased to non-Seneca. Land leased is then taxed. The next lease expires in 2030, with an option to 2070. The Seneca also operate a casino in Salamanca and have a compact with the state to pay 25% of the revenue to the state (which goes to the city and county). About 35% of the city is seneca. The high school's football and baseball field complex was just rebuilt and is owned by the Seneca and leased to the school. It's honestly state of the art and beautiful for a school their size. The team's name is Warriors, and they fly both the star spangled banner and the Seneca Nation flag as well. Seadragon76
Yeah... we got a sort of Bishop Sycamore here. I say 'sort of' because there is an actual Toronto Prep, but not a West Toronto Prep. If you look up where this school is on Google Maps, it's a public park. Anyway. On to other things here. It's playoff time out here in the Northwest. So, a quick run down of what's going on here... Washington 1B - Naselle and Winlock advanced to the district round with Winlock getting hammered by Neah Bay last night and Naselle playing Tulalip Heritage this afternoon. Expect that game to get ugly. 2B - The crossover round saw Toledo win via forfeit against Ilwaco, Wahkiakum getting absolutely destroyed by top ranked Napavine and Kalama falling just short against Raymond/South Bend in overtime. 1A - Castle Rock finished in 2nd place in the Trico yet again and lost their crossover round game against Eatonville. This end the season for the Rockets. 2A - Mark Morris and Woodland made the crossover round with Woodland losing last night against W.F. West while Mark Morris plays tonight in Woodland against Black Hills. The recent downpours have made Longview Memorial Stadium an absolute mud puddle that can't be used for football (it didn't help that R.A Long had a District soccer game in the same conditions the night before). It would have been the final game on grass for the stadium as it will have a new artificial turf set for next season. 3A - Kelso is at home today to host Gig Harbor in the play-in round for 3A. A win means a trip to state and, if all holds well, a decent chance to maybe host a playoff game next weekend. Oregon 2A - In their first year at this level, Clatskanie made it to the playoffs as the 16th seed and were promptly sent back home after a 56-14 beating by Oakland (Yes, there is an Oakland, Oregon). Sykotyk
Canada has quite a few "football" schools that have popped up. Unlike their real cousins, they only play US teams and use American rules. West Toronto Prep is one such team. Canada Prep, Football North, Clarkson North Prep, etc. They're IMG wannabes hoping that their kids can get the eye off an American college recruiter. I had not heard of these football programs until the West Toronto Prep debacle. The best part is that their address points to a ski chalet at a park. To my very limited knowledge of high school football in Toronto these days, Football North seems to be the only one that looks even near legit to me because they are partnered with a public high school. https://clarksonss.peelschools.org/football-north Quote I saw, I came, I left.
