2022 World Cup Concepts by FreshPrince (32/32: Uruguay)

Group D begins with the land down under! The lovable Australian team who surprised many by winning their intercontinental playoff in Penalty Kicks gives me a colourful pallette to choose from.

Green and yellow combined make for one of my favourite sporting looks, so I let is speak mostly for itself. With a wavy pattern meant to evoke the natural beauty of the rock formations found across the Australian outback. I returned to the navy and yellow look of years past for the away kit, with a pattern of yellow dots meant to look like the Wattle plant which Australia takes its national colour from.

@GriffinM6 you'll be happy to see the great Danes concept tomorrow, I think you'll enjoy it!

From one team known for pushing the design limits, to one who has been walking the line between simple and boring as of late. While I do quite enjoy many of their classic looks, I think Poland is in need of a bit of a change in their program after a few disappointing results in recent tournaments. While I can't change how they play on the field I can change how they theoretically look.

So here is my view of a modernized Polish national team. The home takes the traditional look while adding a modern graphic, taken from the mosaic facade of their national stadium. The away is a new look intimidating black kit with the wings of their fierce eagle proudly placed on the chest.

Can't believe the World Cup is only a week away! I'll be posting Saudi Arabia tomorrow to round out Group C, hope you guys have been enjoying this series so far...

Design is ok but as a Pole myself I can tell you that black kit wouldn't be well receive by Polish fans. Maybe as a third kit but definitely not for away, nike already tried in 2010 and failed miserably. :) Home kit is really nice.

From one of the southernmost nations in the World Cup to one of the northernmost, Denmark is coming off a great run in the Euros and are looking to build off that.

When I think of Danish kits I immediately think of the chevrons of their national based kit supplier Hummel. So I took that pattern and ran with it for the home kit creating an alternating patter across the front of the kit. For the away kit I went with a stylized Nordic cross design meeting up over the team crest on the heart, trying to do the most with the simple colour combination while still keeping it authentic to their usual look.

Tomorrow I tackle the reigning champion French team. Thanks for the comments this morning I appreciate it!

I'm glad you like the home kit! Thanks for the view of the polish fans, I'll keep that in mind as I make some edits afterwards. I posted these on reddit too and had someone tell me I should do GK kits and the black away would look great on Szczęsny what do you think about that?

I agree it would works very well as a GK too.

A European powerhouse looking to end the defending champions curse is up today.

The French national team has worn some beautiful kits over the years and I hope to do that history justice with these two concepts. Simplicity is often key with French jersey design, so for the home I let the tricolour speak for itself , using both the new navy and old royal blue from their flag as a transition between the two. I personally love when reigning champions adorn their jersey with gold accents in any sport, so I used that idea for the away, featuring the french symbol of the fleur-de-lis on the arms and some subtle gold striping on the sides and collar for a classy look.

Is this concept fit for the champs? Tomorrow I'll end the week and Group D with a more adventurous Tunisian concept.

Rounding out Group D we have Tunisia looking to escape the group stage for the first time in their history.

The only nation outfitted by Kappa has worn jerseys produced by many brands over the years but often likes to use patterns honouring parts of their culture so I stuck with that idea. Tunisia has some beautiful Mediterranean architecture and tile work found around every corner. The home kit takes inspiration from the many intricately designed doorways you can see walking the streets of Tunis, while the away features the same tile pattern found on the home side panels in large with an elligant gold, black and white colourway.

Can't believe I'm at the halfway point of this project already, which is your favourite concept so far? Are you looking forward to any one in particular in the last four groups?

Beginning Group E with another CONCACAF nation, looking to recreate their cinderella run from 2014.

For a country with such an abundance of natural beauty, their kits this year leave much to be desired. I took my inspiration from their unique geographical features. The home features three peaks for the three volcanoes found in Costa Rica, also found on their national crest and team logo. The away kit, or the waterfall kit, strays from their usual red, blue and white colours for a navy to aqua gradient depicting the many waterfalls and beautiful rivers that wind through the Costa Rican forests.

Let me know what you guys think, I like trying out different colours for the away kits as it seems somewhat realistic that every year a few teams think outside the box (Belgium and Argentina this year come to mind).

Germany and Adidas have teamed up for some iconic looks throughout their history, so I tried to honour that past with the away while creating a new look for the home.

The home kit features a bold Adidas three stripe pattern across the chest in the national flag colours, while the away returns to their teal/green look with a more toned down version of their in/famous 94 look. One modern one retro for a German team with a storied past but also a bright future.

I can't believe the World Cup is already here today! Tomorrow I have in store a Japan concept for you that may be my favourite so far...

In the real world Japan has one of my favourite kits at this years World Cup, but I designed this concept before those had been released. In my fake concept world Japan also has one of my favourites but I'll see if you agree.

Japan has a beautiful variety of living space across their small islands, so I created a combination of kits that embraces that contrast. The home kit is inspired by the neon streets of Tokyo, with a bright pink striped fading away down the centre of the chest meant to depict that reflections of neon signs on street puddles at night. The away moves towards the countryside with colours of the cherry blossom tree combined with a pinstripe pattern commonly seen on another Japanese national team jersey, their baseball team.

Hopefully you guys like my take on the Japanese kits! Tomorrow I'll finish up the Group with a third Adidas team in a row, Spain.

Another day another Adidas concept.

Spain has a traditional home look of red over navy while their away kit has seen many different colours over the years. For the home I used the Adidas three stripes as the primary feature again, with a waving flag pattern coming down through the logo. For the away I went for an intimidating 'bull seeing red' look, with a cubist pattern sublimated on the kit. Will FIFA make them get a third kit because these two are too dark? Most likely yes... But I liked it too much to care so I'll probably make a third white kit for them later.

My nation's group is up next, with their games beginning tomorrow as well. I'll be starting off with their opponent Belgium.

Today is a day I have been waiting for for a very long time: Canadian World Cup game day!!! In honour of such a historic occasion I have a double feature for you, my native Canucks and their mighty Red Devil opponents today.

For the Belgians I've outfitted them in a home kit inspired by their nickname, all fierce red adorned with devil's tridents and firey embers on the sleeves. While they away is a kit fit for a king, with gold accents including a sleeve pattern taken from the crown on their emblem.

On the other side of this matchup we have Canada, a team many were disappointed to see showing up to the world's stage without new kits. In my conceptual universe that isn't the case and les Rouges return to the World Cup with a proud red home kit with a maple leaf on their chest, plaid cuffs and a sublimated striping style familiar to sporting fans of the Great white north. The away is iced out to honour our winter climate that we are so proud of, and one that we utilized to our advantage this qualifying campaign with famous results at the Iceteca in Edmonton, and other frozen fortresses in Hamilton and Toronto.

Canada looks great. Really love the ice blue on the away. The Belgium home is good too but I'm not feeling the colorway on the away. It's looks way too much like a Germany shirt.

Thats a great point now that you mention it I see it as being more Germany for sure, definitely one that I'll have a do-over for in my edits. Thanks for the comments about Canada!

Next up in Group F we've got last edition's surprise runner ups.

The Croatians have a signature look that is non negotiable, and there really are only so many ways to make a checkered kit. There turned out to be some similarities with my original concept and the one Nike released for their home kit! For the away I went with a combination that I find extremely aesthetically pleasing in past editions, red and white checkers on blue kits. No deep meaning just two kit designs that I thought looked good!

Next up will be Morocco, what will be a fourth primarily red home kit in this group!

I complete Canada's group with their opponent in matchday 3, Morocco.

The Atlas Lions have worn a red kit with lighter green and white accents as their home and a white away kit in years past. For the home I used an ornate Moroccan pattern to decorate the front of the kit, with the circular pattern surrounding the number. The away I used the striping from their logo as inspiration for a pattern of striping coming down from the shoulder through the centre of their logo.

Tomorrow I finally escape the red home kit look with Brazil to start off group G.

The world number one and most celebrated team in World Cup history are up next.

Brazil were possibly my biggest challenge for sticking to tradition on the home kit. The tiniest change could cause an uproar with Brazilian supporters. So I kept it fairly simple, with a solid gradient on the cuff patterns inspired by the shining sun on Brazilian beaches. With the home drawing inspiration from the warm sunshine, the away is based on the night's sky. Taking the stars from their national flag, a made a kit fit for the superstars that shine while playing the beautiful game for the Seleção.

I'll be taking tomorrow off to watch team Canada (priorities sorry) but I'll return Monday with another Group G team! Any favourites from the previous group?

These are all very well thought out and beautifully put together.

I think Canada is my favorite. I'd like to see the plaid cuffs brought onto the ice away. Could be a good connection between the two.
