Which extreme was she: physically abused as a child, or coddled beyond belief? Both roads take white women to the same shoe-chucking place.

Only child. Coddled beyond belief. Her parents thought she was perfect, took it personally when the world did not bend to her will, never heard the word “no”, etc. Also, this was 2009 so the shoe was the extra heavy platform style. You could’ve used that thing as a hammer.

In my case, it was absolutely coddled beyond belief. Like, I had never met anyone worse in that sense. I grew up pretty well off and always got the “spoiled” label, but at least I had the awareness of how fortunate that was. She always acted aggrieved like everyone around her owed her something. She was the kinda chick who told everyone how hard she had worked to earn everything and scolded everyone else for being lazy, while living in a house that was 100% bought and paid for by her grandmother. That mixed with a side of her dad never wanting anything to do with her (can’t blame him, her mom was a similar nightmare) and a topping of total delusion on what and who she was. An embarrassing amount of “I’m a born and raised country girl” who had spent her entire life living in Arden Arcade, Sacramento. Closest she ever got to country was going into huge debt buying horses she didn’t have anywhere to house, because again, she grew up next door to a shopping mall.

Now that I think about it, I didn’t even really leave because of the abuse. I mainly left because she started trying to shift her frivolous debt on to me. Trying to forge my signature on the loan for an $80,000 Ford F-350 was the point where I bailed.

Holy crap, dude.  If you stayed with her more than a month or two, all I can say is that sex must have been amazing.

Yeah, you live and you learn. Trying to build a life and a career can be tough, and sometimes you realize it’s not the right way to do it when you’re already in pretty deep. That’s usually the reason for sticking in a bad situation, I suppose. I was fortunate to get out of it without any serious financial issues and no kids. A lot of people aren’t that fortunate.

It’s been a lot to rebuild, and none of it has been easy (also, COVID exasperated a lot of it), but I’m in a mostly good place now. Just gotta keep marching on.

And if you're organizing Jackass, you're missing the point of Jackass.

Yeah, it might be the ex-skateboarder in me but there was always something endearing and, I guess, consensual with the Jackass stuff. Though honestly I don't even know if it's a fair comparison. Kayaking down concrete stairs and shooting fireworks out of your butt cheeks somehow seem levels less stupid and dangerous than this.

The overall sports mediaverse's continued fealty toward Dana White is really something else.

Reminds me of a game we played as kids called "6 inches" (insert joke here) where you'd extend your pinky and thumb on one hand (which is around 6 inches), put the pinky against your opponent's shoulder, put your fist on your thumb, then punch the person's shoulder as hard as you could from that distance (so no windup or anything.)  Then just keep exchanging punches until someone quit.

Or in college, we had a smaller-than-regulation pool table, and  we'd put our hands over the rail, so our knuckles would be totally exposed.  Then your opponent would take a pool ball and spike it against the opposite rail so that it would shoot across the table and hit your knuckles.  Then you just keep doing that till someone quits.  Just some stupid 💩 to entertain ourselves while drunk in a redneck town in western PA.

My college girlfriend used to hit me in the chest with a closed fist along with the occasional slap in the face because she knew I wouldn't do anything in response. She also threw a high heel shoe at the back of my head when I wasn't looking. Her anger management and conflict resolution skills were insane, like she thought the point of having a boyfriend was someone you boss around and get into public arguments with.

Holy crap...man I hope that wasn't a stiletto, she could've killed you with one of those if it hit heel first.  Glad you got away from her, she sounds nuts.

EDIT: You too @FiddySicks...yikes, trying to make YOU go broke because she refused to stop wasting her own money...just yikes.

As someone pointed out earlier, at least some athletes in barbaric sports get paid fairly well. This gets about as much viewership as reruns of Mama's Family on Antenna TV. They're probably doing this in the hope it turns into something like a reality TV gig or a shot to fight in UFC.

Imagine being the guy who laid that first dude out and running around in celebration. I just probably ruined a guy's quality of life permanently and won...well nothing!

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."

I think the best they can hope for is that people tune in each week just to see the absurdity with their own eyes, until everyone's seen it once, and then it totally dies.

Some people are sadistic like that, that ruining somebody's quality of life is the prize.  Surprised nobody's told Bill Romanowski about this, crap like this seems like it'd be right up his alley.

Part of me is hoping this sticks around just for the online clips. It's one thing to call something the dumbest sport you've ever seen, but this might actually be it.

It's not just because it's dangerous as hell but also because it only pays a few grand. How desperate are you for money? Go sell drugs if it's that bad. Consider robbing a cash-friendly business at gunpoint. Both of those options have to be less dangerous than this if done correctly.

Is being on TV really that big of a deal to people? I've been on TV before. It's alright, but nowhere near worth it for that.

This thing makes those Barstool Rough N'Rowdy events look like a night at the opera. Is there anyone out there at all watching for any reason other than morbid curiosity? I'm trying to understand what other appeal there could be besides that for anyone either watching or participating, and I'm drawing a blank.

Speaking as someone who has been on TV a lot, that's a well executed humble brag. 😎

Good for you. Keep doing the sunglasses emoji. You look so cool every time you do it. What do they say about the cry-face laugh emoji? Every time you see, it means the person is madder than they've ever been in their life.

I must have really done something to tick you off at some point.

Relax. It was a joke, dude. Thus the smiling sunglasses emoji which has kind of been my bit around here for, I don't know, the last 15 years? It doesn't mean anything other than I'm kidding. That said, I agree, I do look pretty cool when I use it. 😎 See what I mean? 🙃

Football and wrestling don't require players to just stand there defenseless and take blows to the head.

The concussion related risks are not worth the 15 minutes of fame. I hope at least that the network provides health insurance to the competitors.

There's also an argument that these guys are going to be doing this regardless - whether in back alleys, Kimbo Slice-style backyard fights, or somewhere else where there's no medical attention (not even Dana's "medical professionals"), probably for less $ than the pittance that Dana is paying, and where there's no regulation.

I'm disgusted by it, but there's no way to stop it, so at least regulate it.  Same with gambling.  Same with other harmful activities that are currently regulated on the streets and not in any sanctioned way.

By the way, this is another entry in the voluminous "Reasons the Federal Government Should Have Blocked the Warner/Discovery Merger" list. This is Zaslav greenlighting more dirt-cheap programming for idiots while deleting the library for tax writeoffs.
