Found some real gems on here. Most of their screw ups (coincidently 😅) are on NHL swag.

That 10-year deal is going to fall apart quicker than what the NHL thinks. If this keeps up, they're done for.

Still, if Fanatics defied all odds and actually make an effort to improve quality control, within those 10 years that hatedom will be gone. But until then, oh lord......

Due to their monopoly position at this point does quality even matter? They've built their empire on consigned plain tshirt inventory and a screen printer and every league chased the dollar, it's been a pure market share ploy.

According to our benevolent overlord on the mothership, the Flyers sweaters will look like 80s/90s with a lot of black stripped off and they're keeping the ridiculous contrasting nameplates....

The graphic makes the new unis look like the current unis, with thicker vertical arm stripes, elimination of the white torso stripe, and a darker orange (though the design is just a projection and may not be 100% correct)

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

Sounds dumb.  Why get rid of the stripes , and keep the contrasting nameplate.

So instead of going back to their best look, they decided to split the difference between it and their current "it looks like crap, but it's ViNtAgE!" look instead. Actually, if the nameplates still don't match, I'd say they are less than half of the way back to where they should be.

At least the sleeve numbers will fit inside the damn stripes.

The Flyers update, if true, is pointless. Either come up with an evolved version of the uniform, or go back to the popular 90’s set. Keeping the different colored nameplates is awful. This sounds like a weird 70’s/90’s hybrid, with the only positive sounding like a return to a darker orange (I believe Chris has his oranges mixed up in the article).

So they just lazily pulled an Ottawa and grabbed some old look and managed to make it worse while fixing none of the problems?

Really goes to show how barely anyone has any good and new ideas anymore. Half the league has just lazily gone back to either wearing some old look (sabres, flames, oilers, pens, coyotes, isles) or a downgraded version of it (sens, flyers, kings, canucks, devils).

And then there's Carolina...

White nameplates always struck a nice balance between form and function (unique Flyers trait, provided maximum legibility), it was the black nameplates on white that never made sense. The idea was that single-layer black letters on white were easier to read than white on orange. There's no reason to bring a black base in.

It might be a hot take and bias as a flyers fan but I like the nameplates, especially with how thin the yolk is on the rear shoulders I think it adds a nice balance. I also feel like it's a unique look owned by the flyers.

The white nameplates on the current orange jersey look good and make sense because of the historical connection. Different colored nameplates should not exist on any other Flyers jersey. Not the whites, not the blacks, not the Stadium Series, not the Winter Classics. And definitely not the new ones

Mixing original sweaters with 80s/90s is not a bad idea although contrast nameplate on home might give too much white on back but on the other hand on away could add some black contrast.

Anyway could be worse.

Almost every example you've provided has been extremely popular with the respective fanbases, so it sounds like you just want teams to change for the sake of it. Maybe this just shows that most teams got it right on their first try and never should have changed in the first place.

Did you really want to see the Flyers go off the board and come up with something the fans would hate?

The fact that they're darkening the orange should've been a sign to ditch the nameplates altogether. Is it really that hard to make out the name on this jersey?

Hard? Not really. But it's still less contrast than black on white, and the ad-hoc nature of slapping a white nameplate on a non-white sweater made for a characteristically Flyers design element: it made them look like a team that didn't fuss with details. Compare with the big-money Rangers and Red Wings doing fancy arched names. Does that make sense?

Meh, it's a quirky design element that should just be a fun footnote on the team's uniform history. They did it briefly in the early '70s, but eventually switched to orange nameplates for the rest of the '70s, '80s, and '90s.

It was ok as a one-off used on a retro alternate, but should have been ditched as soon as they made the throwback set the full time home & away.

Exactly; just because a design trait is unique doesn't necessarily make it good. I mean, the hem striping of the Isles' wave jersey is incredibly unique in the NHL, but you'd be hard pressed to find anybody who says that it's a good jersey unless we're talking "so bad, it's good". Same with the Buffaslug; it's absolutely unique, but it's still not a very good look for the Sabres in any unironic sense. Gradient jerseys were the same way; unique, but most of them were not good.

The white nameplates on the orange Flyers jerseys look exactly like what they originated as; a last-minute addition that clashes with the rest of the design because it was literally transplanted from another jersey. The white lettering on orange backing just looks more cohesive and purposeful within the design.

They worked for the throwback look, but they should not be standard for the Flyers. It'd be like Toronto deciding to only wear brown pants and gloves with their jerseys full-time; sure, that's a historical look for them, but everybody remembers the Leafs in blue equipment and the brown is considered just an old-timey quirk.
