I love how the Panthers arena comment was made that "its in the middle of nowhere".  Yes, looking west its all Everglades beyond the turnpike.

If someone (who will remain nameless) would look at a map, they'd realize the arena is only on the outer edge of suburban sprawl.  Not the downtown vibe, but clearly not "middle of nowhere"

I looked it up per your suggestion. There's a mall directly across the street and homes on every other side. And there's even a swamp between the arena and the mall.

This is as middle of nowhere as it gets:

I was down in South Florida back in January and went to a Panthers game.  If that arena isn't in the middle of nowhere it's sure on the edge of it.  Had fun there and had a surprisingly good atmosphere but the location...

Way back when I was a little kid living in Weston, my mom would take me with her to Sawgrass Mills for shopping and I just remember that arena building not far away. We never went to a game, but in the context of time I thought it was a cool place to have a professional sports team play because firstly I was a little kid, and secondly it felt like it was in our own suburban community (Weston wasn't as developed as Sunrise was at the time, so it felt like the latter was our designated area of affiliation). Now though, it's weird to think about and I actually can't believe the Panthers are still there, sharing a developed area with a shopping mall on the edge of the Everglades. It's definitely unique... in maybe a good and bad way. 😄

The Panthers are like the Kansas City Royals from a decade ago- irrelevant franchise having their 15 minutes of fame before they go back to the basement where they belong.

Lol, this team is one of the best hockey teams I’ve ever seen. And the Panthers have been at least competitive for like a half decade now. I don’t even watch this dumb sport and I know that.

I'm hardly a hockey expert, but it was pretty obvious to me that the Panthers were clearly the better team in the ECF. I knew the Rangers were doomed after game 2.

I mean, it’s the middle of nowhere. But it’s nowhere near the champion of the middle of nowhere arenas.

Underrated facility and the home of my beloved Cleveland Crusaders of the WHA. Great place to see a concert too. The "nowhere" of the place was part of its charm. Very easy to get to.

That, my friend, is the Richfield Coliseum just south of Cleveland. Former home of the Cavs and the mighty Cleveland Crusaders of the WHA. It wasn't nearly as remote as it looks in that pic. Great place to see a concert.

Yeah, I bank too much on people recognizing things. But yeah, Richfield Coliseum was the most out-in-nowhere arena I could think of. I get why it was so out there and the appeal of such an arrangement.

Very much sounds like a Midwest version of Arco/Power Balace/Sleep Train/Whatever the hell it was called toward the end.

It's visible from the 5... I guess?

Technically you'd have to look past Angel Stadium, the 57, and random office/industrial parks to see it from the 5.  But at least it still has going for it its proximity to a movie theater and shopping center with random restaurants.  Just replace Johnny Rockets with Lazy Dog and you have Glendale West.

But, hey, it also has such close proximity to a train station built for a high speed rail line that may manage to get built before the year 2067.

I don't like them either but you gotta pick your spots

If Florida wins the Cup they should have the parade inside the mall.

We got lucky with a run of Red Wings, Penguins, Blackhawks, Bruins, Kings, and Capitals. Those are all teams from real places. But everything is cyclical, and now we could be in another era of parking lot parties.

Time out...the Cavaliers used to play in Richfield?? I never knew that! What the world had them set up shop way down there (relatively speaking)? I'm guessing available land at the time?

(And admittedly my perception of Richfield is skewered due to that crack Pilot at the 77/80 interchange. If you've ever been in there, you know what I mean. If you've never been, DON'T.)

*Disclaimer: I am not an authoritative expert on stuff...I just do a lot of reading and research and keep in close connect with a bunch of people who are authoritative experts on stuff. 😁

now that I think about it, this isn't too dissimilar to Nassau Coliseum just kind of being plunked down next to Hofstra's campus amidst a bunch of office parks. I get that Hempstead is the closest thing you could really get to a proper "city" on LI, but it's still weird.

Honestly, most of that is a blur since the majority of my trips on that part of the 5 are on the way to Disneyland so I'm not looking too closely.

Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (CHL - 2018 Orr Cup Champions) Chicago Rivermen (UBA/WBL - 2014, 2015, 2017 Intercontinental Cup Champions)

Anticipation of ever-growing suburbia and Akron becoming the Fort Worth to Cleveland's Dallas. Didn't take.
