Were they the first to use this? also, what is the specific colour of the 49ers gold? i think the edmonton eskimos should use the 49ers gold and make the green darker. thanks. oilfan. sj32 Posted December 22, 2002 Share Posted December 22, 2002 Looking at NHLuniforms.com, it looks like the New York Americans were the first team to use the dropshadowed numbers. The Amerks started using them in the 1930-31 season. The Rangers started using them in 1941-42. As far as football is concerned, I believe the Cleveland Browns were the first to use them.
